I have wrote in the other forums but this is my first time posting in this one. I have went to numerous psychiatrists before I finally accepted their diagnosis- bi-polar. This last doctor put me on med's and I had been sober until a few minutes ago. I get so emotional that it makes it impossible, so it seems, to stay sober. I thought if I started taking my medication I would be sure not to drink- I was wrong. I don't really know where I am going with this. I feel so confused, unmotivated, simply miserable.... I can't stop the thoughts that race through my mind. Its driving me crazy, I wish i could just disappear for awhile.. How and when will I get better? Should I keep taking the med's if I am drinking? I don't know where to go from here.

I, too, suffer from addiction/alcoholism and a mood disorder. It has taken a long time, but I'm finally on a combination of meds that controls my symptoms! Work closely with your doctor, get to some meetings, and hang in there, honey!

Heya Susan

Misc psychological disorders and substance abuse here too.

I'll second what Eddie said...... talk to your doc and be honest about it. Psych meds can not only be negated by booze, but the combination can be really dangerous!

Ditto for alcohol addiction along with some psychological disorders (including bi-polar).
Like mootie said, your meds are negated by alcohol and it really can be dangerous...
I have found that I have to recognize and treat my alcohol addiction and mental health issues seperately... I realize that they are inter-related to each other, but seperate the two when it actually comes down to dealing with them and working to get well in my recovery....
Meditations that focus on breathing have really helped me to get centered again and to slow down the myriad of thought racing through my brain.
Hang in there, seriously consider putting that drink away and try some other way's of healing.

Hi Susan,

Same here with alcoholism and mood disorders inlcuding bi-polar. I agree with what you've already read but wanted to add that if you are interested in not drinking try an AA meeting. You don't have to say anything if you don't want to. They don't take attendance and they won't try to brainwash you. I'll have 4 years in February and it is only because of AA. Good luck.
