Looking for others...

Greetings,

I am a schizophrenic, and a recovering addict. My drug of choice was Dextromethorphan (DXM). I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with this drug, but it is the active ingredient in anti-tussive cough medications. I have only very recently started to get over my addiction, and it almost cost me the love of my life before I realized just how bad it was getting. While DXM is not physically addictive, it is certainly psychologically addictive, especially for those with mental health problems as well. It was indeed a very poor choice of drug for me, as it has only made the problems that I have with the schizophrenia worse, as it is a dissociative.

I am looking for others who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, particularly those who have had addictions to dissociatives or hallucinogenics, to perhaps share experiences with.

Sincerely,
-= Myndian Rotularen =-

Hi Myndian

I'm not schizophrenic, but I wanted to welcome you.

I am, however, familiar with DXM and can definitely relate to you. I'm glad you're getting over it.

Welcome to SR, MR!!
Eddie here, recovering addict and mostly depressive myself. I tried using dextromethorphan but I don't think I took enough to experience the dissociative effects. However, I did use hallucinogens, though they weren't my drug/s of choice. Don't know if I have much useful to share with you, but I did at least want to welcome you.

Peace, love, and hugs,
Eddie

i am quite familiar with DXM. i had my days with that **** even though it was not my choice drug, i liked it alot. i heard somewhere that its a dirivedent of meth? but ya, i know that its hard to kick that ****. it was easy for me to kick it once i found out how many kids have died from it. it doesnt matter how many times you have done it in the past, you can still develop a deadly allergic reaction. sick. welcome.

Actually, it's a derivative of morphine—a synthetic opioid. No relation to methamphetamine. Maybe you meant meth as in methadone, though, which is also a synthetic opioid.

Welcome. I'm a bi-polar, 6 months sober, but still smoke pot. As you can see we all have some hang-up or we wouldn't be here. But the people here will be able to give you support and encouragement to accomplish your task. they've helped be alot already.

A derivative of morphine?? Yikes! That explains alot. Also makes sense..... I know that codiene is an excellent antitussive.
