Thought I was unipolar but NOT!!!

I have been dealing with depression for the last 3 and a half years and just recently came out of it but apparently now I am hypomanic. This is my first documented hypomanic event. Sleeping only 3 hours a night and have loads of energy. Feel great and it is such a nice break from the depression. Have to be careful though as I noted I seem to have poor impulse control lately. I made some real foolish purchases last week before I realized what was up with me. Now I know I have to be cautiuos and double think any decisions I make in the next while. Going to go on antabuse too to ensure I won't drink during this episode.

Are you on medication? If not, you should call your doctor and see about having your meds adjusted. Of course, when your hypomanic you don't want to do that because you want to keep feeling good.

If you don't control it, it might turn into mania and the higher you go, the lower you will crash. If you control it now, you probably won't fall into a depression.

Kudos to you for being cautious during this time. In fact you shouldn't make any serious decisions during this time!

Kudos again for going on antabuse.

I am being weaned of my paxil and should be off it by christmas. I have been put on loxapine as a mood stabilizer. The antabuse was my idea after having a one night relapse my doc says was a direct result of my instability at the time. I am doing okay now though or rather I am doing better than I was.
