Okay, there doesn't seem to be much interst in this thread, but Live told me about a book called the Artistic Mind...I do believe that's what it was called and that sounds like a great one to me.

Okay...I'm asking not only for bipolar book titles, but any kind of books that deal with emotional, spiritual healing or discussions or whatever that could help someone struggling with stress, depression, and/or anxiety or anything else.

I surely would appreciate it.
Hugs,
Jen

I now currently reading an oldie, but a goodie called:

"Little Miss Perfect: Learn to stop controlling and start living creatively. A recovery Book for adult Children," by Megan LeBoutillier.

I'm almost done reading it and it's been better than all of my theropy sessions on living in an alcoholic family as a child. There's such a connection with ACOC's and mental illnesses that I find these books to also aid in my mental health recovery.

One interesting part I read was about how we have the power to make ourselves sick or healthy depending on if we think we are sick or healthy. In other words, all I've been doing the past 6 months is thinking and figuring out exactly HOW sick I really am.....and I just keep getting sicker it seems. So I think there's really something to this line of thought that if you think you are ill, then regardless of whether or not you are...you will make yourself sick. Food for thought.

I believe the next book I will read is going to be:

"Move Ahead with Possibility Thinking," by Robert H. Schuller.

It's a "practical and spiritual challenge to change your thinking and your life."

As far as I am concerned the most important book I have come across lately is a consortium of scientists in dialogue with the Dalai Lama. There are two. It contains the most cutting edge research and how it can be used in practical application towards wellness. Actually there are two companion books. Must haves.
Healthy emotions, a dialogue with the Dalai Lama
And the second Destructive emotions edited by Daniel Goldman.
They are both astounding.
I have learned things I have been looking for for years!

PS I have always had a beef that the focus was on identifying with the illness. And how that limits us and alters our perceptions of ourselves.
These two books do the opposite.
The only other study I know of where science researched healthy successful people was thro interviews by Alfred Adler many years ago titled Motivation and personality.

These two new books are groundbreaking and are based on solid lab research with the newest technology. No hokey-pokey.

Incerdible wisdom! And of practical use.

Hi na4today...welcome to SR.

I have a few more books to add. It's a list my wonderful new psychologist gave me:

* Time for Joy by Ruth Fishel (sp?)
* Dance of Anger by Harriet Learner (sp?)
* The Sexual Healing Journey by ? - for the sexually abused
* Heros by Belleruth Naparstek (this is a recent book that's come out)
* Living the life you were meant to live by Tom Patterson
* Health Wise Handbook; A self-car manuel for you and your family - over 180 health problems by Pacificare (this was one I was thumbing through in her office and found out a lot of stuff I never would have known otherwise. I'm not sure how to get a copy, but I plan to try.)

She also suggested I visit www.healthjourney.com. I haven't been there yet so I hope it's not one of those no-no sites that I can't put on here? If it is, I'm sorry (in advance).

HAPPY READING AND RECOVERING TO ALL MY FRIENDS AT SR .

AND HAPPY 2005

Thank you for your interest in my books. They saved my life, and best of all, they helped some people as well.

My book will be called "The Second Medusa" as it refers to the mysterious and dangerous creature who changed men into stones. In French, it´s a name for a nasty sea creature who stings you. What is the name again?

I already wrote the first novel in my trilogy about rtelationships. It was published in 2001 and called "The Medusa".

(thread by chm760)
Recently my g/f and I have been gong through a whole lotta mess with addiction and bi-polar. Its hard for everyone I know, but I have found a book that has kept me going through all of this. "The Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman!

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...=glance&s=books

Its a wonderful book! You have to read it. It will change your life.

Has anyone else found books of inspiration? A story that helps you out during tough times? Keep the thread alive. Make a reply.

( post by 2stop)
Good thread topic!!
I'll have to check out that book you mentioned..
It really helps me to read dr. Wayne Dyer's books, Real Magic and Your Sacred Self are two favorites of mine..
Something that usually works for me too is the quote by Anne Frank I have in my signature..Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy..So simple, so true, and so very powerful to me

(post by Juls)
It's not really a book of inspiration in the sense of what you mentioned, but it inspires me. "The Wind in the Willows." I have read that book many times since childhood, and it never fails to bring me new insight.

(post by mamabear)

These are two I've read recently:

Michael J. Fox - Lucky Man
Joan Chittister (a Catholic Progressive) - scarred by Struggle. Transformed by Hope (it's superb)

(post by ButterflyChaser)

I've got a book that has helped me alot!! I highly recommended it...
it's called~~~ "In the Meantime" By: Ilanya VanZant
