| What does work?
My adult son is spinning out of control. He's gone from Bipolar 2 to Bipolar 1, has substance abuse issues, and it's been 3 years now. He has meds, takes them sporadically, has a therapist, as do my husband and me, and still, he is not getting any better. As a matter of fact, he's getting worse. What does work???? Are there success stories I can read? I'm losing hope. Despair is beginning to set in. Any input you have is welcome. Reikihelps (aka Mamabear) |

He's going to need to be on his meds daily, not sporatically, or he is going to get worse. He's also going to need to address his substance abuse issues because meds and drugs/alcohol do not mix. Would he be amenable to a 12 step program or even a detox? They'd give him his bipolar meds in a detox. My s/o is bipolar and did use crack with me. She's off the drugs, as am I, and she's taking her meds. It took a bit of work for me to get her to do this regularly, but she is a success story.

glad to hear it, Mootpoint, Sorry it took so long for me to answer. My son has 30 days recovering and it's wonderful to see him sober. I am now going to focus on working my program (at least for today) Reikihelps |

Soooooooooo now I'm taking the next step in helping me.Since our son is dual dx, I'm going to work on my codependency. I am attending Alanon (it's about my 6th meeting), found a wonderful home group, and I guess the next step is a sponsor. How do I go about this? Is there somewhere I can read about this process? I did have a therapist for me to help me cope but she's moving after three years together!!! Argh. She's awesome and now I have to start again. So before I go through that whole deal, I thought I'd invest more in Alanon. Hey, they're not gonna move on me!
