Drinking does not mix well with mental health issues. The alcohol tends to make matters worse and impedes recovery. Depending on his disorder, there are support groups specific to certain disorders. There are also support groups for families of the mentally ill. Information can be gotten from any mental health facility. I don't know where you live but here in toronto there is alot of support groups for psychiatric survivors and their loved ones.

Hey Netty.... Is the Newcastle area in Delaware? Alcohol and mental health issues do not get along. Do you think he would be willing to stop drinking? I'd suggest Al Anon for you and your son (there is also an Ala Teen too). There is also CODA (codependents anonymous) and DRADA (depression and related affective disorder association). Here's DBSA (depression and bipolar support alliance)... http://www.dbsalliance.org. Call 410-583-2919 (Baltimore number, but they should be able to help) What kind of mental disorder does he have? I'm asking cuz I'm going to poke around on the Internet and see what I can come up with in your area. Edited to add....
