| Prozac?
My doctor persribed Prozac to me yesterday, 20 mg 1x a day. I tried Celexa, I think that was the name, for one week a few years ago, I hated it! I felt numb to everything. Nothing since then. Can anyone share their experiences with me? Thanks M |

Hi Mich... I only had a very short experience with Prozac many years ago and I wasn't on it long enough to see the positive effects at the time. (I wanted to get pregnant) Two of my sisters are telling me that they think it is a lifesaver. I am thinking that perhaps I should try it at some point. I am sure I will get to that since I feel like I am trying everything. I am in the Boston area and just started to see a doctor in the city. I was seeing a doctor on the South Shore prior to this trip to the city. Are you in the city or suburbs? Good lLuck |

Thanks Guys! Running free...I am on the North Shore, about 20 minutes from the city. My Primary doctor seems very nice. Yesterday was the first time I met him. He really took his time with me and was only asking me simple questions about my life, when all of a sudden I started to bawl! LOL I guess I wasnt able to keep it together as I have for so long. Thas when he suggested prozac and a therapist. Things can only get better. I hope :-) |

Mitch, I've been on it for about six years. I just bumped up to 60mg/day. It's a nightmare for me after about three weeks not taking it. I quit taking it to see if I really needed it, boy was that stupid. I got real negative and disgusted with the world. It does intensify the effects of alcohol so be careful if you fall off the wagon or something. If I remember correctly, it had some side effects when I first started on it. I think I had some headaches and maybe a dry mouth or something. I don't have any side effects anymore and haven't for a long time, or none that I can positively identify Prozac as the culprit.

I never had any problems with that other area of concern.

Prozac is my best friend!!! I mean it...will never stop taking it. When I first started taking it I would get really tired (which apparently is the opposite of most people) but after a few weeks that side effect went away. One time, I didn't get my script filled right away and went for a while without taking it. I could tell the difference. Could feel all the negativity coming back. Will never let that happen again!! As for the sexual side effects....I think they are pretty common. If I remember correctly, my doctor said that there is something you can take to counter-act it. You may want to ask about that because I can't really remember. As for me, the only sexual side effect that I noticed is that "the urge" to have sex-if you know what I mean-is not as strong. So I don't initiate it as often as my fiance does. But once I get going everything is fine!! (just a slow starter) So I just have to try a little harder (no pun intended) to remember to initiate it. That may be a side effect some people would not want to live with-but the trade off for me is WELL worth it. I can actually function in the world now, (I can get out of bed and leave the house and everything!!) So if I have to "think" about sex more with my brain......because my body doesn't always remind me about it, that's ok with me. And actually, now that I think about it, I NEVER wanted to have sex before prozac because I was too busy being depressed. So Prozac improved my sex life!!! It will take a while for your body to adjust to the meds, and often the side effects will go away once your body gets used to them.(you need to be on them more than 1 week!!! It can take up to a few months!!) You'll just have to wait and see how you respond to it. Ask your doctor about any side effects that don't go away on their own, there is probably something they can do. Good luck to you!!!
