| Pregnant and Bi Polar... Wow...
Hi all! Long time no type! (Miss you all very very much! Big Hugs) I saw on here at one point of time, a thread about bi polar mothers and how they are dealing with pregnancy. My wife (that’s so cool to say!!), is now expecting, she’s 11 weeks into the pregnancy and has been dealing with it just fine, but the mood swings are a terrible thing to work with. I was just wondering, are there any married-to-bi polar- husbands out there who can give me some advice? Or mothers who have been through the same thing. I'm so proud of her! She really wants to get back on her meds, she hates feeling this way, I feel so bad for her but I can't express that because she may go into a guilt/panic attack, and that will stress out the baby. Thanks BTW The book has hit a brick wall; I am waiting for replies from Representatives from the State of Texas on their opinions on how to improve mental health care and addiction in our state on others. I can see now, we only have each other. |

Chm, It's good to see you hear again. Wow, congratulations on the pregnancy. Unfortunately I don't know much about being pregnant and bi-polar. It seems that one or the other is plenty enough to deal with, but both at the same time, that is alot. What does her doctor say about how best for her to deal with those mood swings. When I was pregnant I had them too, but I'm not bi-polar. Keep reassuring her as best and as much that you can that she is doing great, that her feelings are normal, she will be o.k., the baby will be o.k. Resting and taking care of herself are of utmost importance, as I'm sure you know. Is she having to work? Hopefully someone else will be here with more information. Juls

Wow! Congrats to the two of you. Just one word of caution and it is about meds. Talk to a psychiatrist as Bi-Polar meds can be potentially dangerous for the unborn. In other words, just never start using the meds during pregnancy without consulting the prescribing MD....
