| Frustrated with dr's rant
I go to a county mental health clinic (no insurance) for my psychiatrist, psychologist, and pharmacy needs. Well, my dr. got kicked out on short notice. Didn't even notify me...isn't that illegal? Anyway, I got referred to a nurse practitioner in the building, but not until the 27th. The point of all this is that I was on 300mg of seroquel daily and 1800 depakote, and I found all this out when I tried to call in for a refill. He didn't leave me any. They won't fill it at all until I see my new dr, who will probably keep me on the same meds because i can tolerate them at the moment.... So. Off of depaktoe and seroquel just like that. I ran out Sunday and I'm starting to get pretty wacked out now. I still need to wait a week to get more meds. They told me to go to the ER with my scripts and they'll write me ones until my next appointment. The problem with that is the no insurance. Anything I fill at the clinic costs me $4. It's great since I'm on a very limited income. I can't afford to dish out over $200 bucks for a week's worth of seroquel and depakote, and the ER bill to boot. They always tell me how dangerous it is if I go off my meds..and here I am without them. Why is thie S*** so ******* complicated sometimes!!!! |

I understand the pain of lacking insurance and dealing with insensitive doctors. Maybe you can apply for charity care from theh ER. I have in the past and have been freed from bills, it depends on your income.

jh- similar thing happened to me a couple of months ago. after I went through what can only be called a DETOX I seriously considered not renewing the prescription. I sopke with my sponsor abouit it - thinking it was gonna mess up my sobriety date but she told me it was prescribed medication and I had been taking it as prescribed. This is the gaping black hole in the 'healthcare system' and now that our prez is going to let doctors dictate what changes can be made there's really no recourse for us. The ER here - takes payments. *shrug* I'd do that before dropping meds cold turkey again.

That's criminal endangerment. Those responsible would be charged with a felony in Quebec. Doctors usually write prescriptions for six months at a time for medications that are not controlled substances here anyhow and if you only needed a week's worth your regular pharmacy would phone their main doctor and ask for a short-term prescription for you no problem. The more I read about the medical system in the US the more like a crime syndicate it seems to be.
