St john's Wort, SAme interactions with Zyprexa and Lithium

I recently had a seizure, so I was taken off all of my psych meds except for Lithium. I feel very depressed now, and my psych doc does not want me on any antidepressants and Benzos until I see a neurologist. That can take a nother week or two.

From what you guys have experienced, would taking either Same E or St John's wort (maybe both) increase the risk of seizures.

this was my very first seizure, and I am not epileptic. We still aren't sure why it hapepned.

I had been off Benzos for over a month, and I had not drank in months.

I did take too many Benadryls, and some codeine the day before the seizure though.

I just don't know what to do, so much is going poorly in life right now, and I really can't stand depression added on to all of this stress.

What else can I do so boost my mood? I would like to excercise, but I'm afraid to because it was during the excercise when I caught the seizure.

I actually tried St john's Wort and Same before, and it didn't seem to help. In fact I think it made things worst because I was also on wellbutrin and Lexapro at the time.

This time I'm on nothing but lithium, and I will soon start Zyprexa.

I know we're not allowed to give med advice, just wondering if any of you have been in this similar situation.

Than k you for your time.

ok, just did some real quick research, some sites are saying same is much more effective.

I guess it wouldn't make sense to use both.

Hmm .. Same is more more expensive, maybe there's something to that.

I think you should stop self medicating it can only cause problems. I only had a brief experience with lithium and yes it was depressing; Zyprexa turned my world around very quickly and it was wonderful, I've been prescribed at 2 different times for a periods of 6-8 weeks and it was a life saver both times. Try to be patient until the doctor is ready to change/add your meds.

I agree with this, I honestly know how hard it can be and depression on top of stress is awful but if you can just hold out a bit longer...try (I know it's easier said that done) to take your mind off of things and keep coming on here and talking to us :-)

good luck and please keep us updated

Agreed...and under no circumstances should you take two serotonin-boosting substances together - like SJW and SAMe - except under the advice and care of a trained medical professional. You are risking serotonin syndrome, which is at best scary as hell, and at worst fatal.

Be well!

Yes, I have heard the same, dont mix pharmas with OTC anti depressants.

I take 5 HTP alone, adding a pharma anti D can cause serotonin syndrome.
