| Going to see a psychiatrist Friday!
I've been sober for over 3 months, now, and an issue that I had been drowning in booze has been sitting "high and dry", and getting more bothersome each day since going sober. I have been to a Christian Counselor a few times, but lost my confidence in them, as they seemed to make me feel worse instead of better. My issue is going to be dealing with bitterness that is 21 years old. My doctor has put me on Lexapro(still in the first week of taking), and I am taking Buspar. I think the Lexapro is going to be tolerated better than a couple I've tried before. I don't know what to expect from the Psychiatrist, being a first visit and all. I was able to make some progress with my faith in God, and didn't know if going to a Dr. would "go against" the Biblical principle of AA, but after 3 months of having a few decent and lots of very bad days, I need some relief. I tend to dwell on negative things instead of positive ones.....

Now about health: A body badly burned by alcohol does not often recover overnight nor do twisted thinking and depression vanish in a twinkling. We are convinced that a spiritual mode of living is a most powerful health restorative. We, who have recovered from serious drinking, are miracles of mental health. But we have seen remarkable transformations in our bodies. Hardly one of our crowd now shows any dissipation. But this does not mean that we disregard human health measures. God has abundantly supplied this world with fine doctors, psychologists, and practitioners of various kinds. Do not hesitate to take your health problems to such persons. Most of them give freely of themselves, that their fellows may enjoy sound minds and bodies. Try to remember that though God has wrought miracles among us, we should never belittle a good doctor or psychiatrist. Their services are often indispensable in treating a newcomer and in following his case afterward. So please, do not hesitate to see a doctor.

I'm seeing a psychiatrist for my mental illness and it has helped me get to a place where I could begin my healing journey. I do a lot of other healing practices that with the medication has helped me better manage my mental illness and addiction symptoms.
