Hi, I have not read it personally but a friend of mine who is young 20, raves about "My Bipolar Road trip". Not sure of the author but it will come right up when googled. I hope this helps. Take care, Kerry

Add-on -- I looked it up and it is by Lizzie Simon. On Amazon it has a wealth of knowledge about its description and many reviews as well as other book suggestions for this topic. If I knew how to cut and paste I would highlight it for u. Good luck and used copies are often available. Best wishes to u and ur son, Kerry

The Up and Down Life by Paul E. Jones is one of my favorites. Should be able to find it really cheap on Amazon. It's really easy to read/understand, has chapters for family and friends, etc. I've also always liked An Unquiet Mind by Kay Redfield Jamison (which is probably one of the most "well-known" books on bipolar...but it's more of a memoir so it might not be exactly what you're looking for)

Hey there, There are many books about bipolar disorder out there, and An Unquiet Mind is a good one. Go to the link below and you'll find a slew of books about bipolar disorder: Books about Bipolar Disorder Also, I'd highly recommend The Mindful Way Through Depression for anyone suffering from any sort of depression. It's not terribly clinical, but very helpful. Also, make sure he's seeing a therapist who uses cognitive behavioral therapy.

Thank you for the suggestions.......I'll be setting an appointment for him soon......just waiting for him to stablize a bit more so he doesnt get a bad impression of therapy right from the start. His perception of what is being said to him is still not 100% and sometimes hes offended when he misinterprets -- still slightly paranoid I guess but that should keep improving I will be ordering some books ..........thanks again |

I'm not bi-polar but we did have a couple of bi-polar people in my Cognitive behavioral therapy group and they did pretty well using the TEA form exercise to supplement their meds. Probably not as well as the rest of the group overall but it did seem to help level them off quite a bit. The book we used in our group was really short and simple and outlines the TEA form exercise. It was also written by an anxiety sufferer so not technical at all really. It is called Been there, Done that? Do This! by Sam Obitz. Hope this is useful to you and your son. |
