Ive been taking abilify for two years and it is a great drug. The only side effect I have is it makes me drowsy, although it is hard to tell how drowsy it makes me cause im on other meds that also cause drowsiness. And if you dont have insurance it is ridicuously expensive.

well, thank goodness I take it at night. I'm on a very low dose, 2.5mg. From what I've read it's the lowest does prescribed. Generally more like 15mg for Bipolar II and lower doses for Major Depressive Disorder.

I take 5mg and have for 2 yrs now. It has worked great for me. I find it a little activating so I take it in the AM. I am BPII. Can go up to 10mg as needed.

Hopefully you read this AFTER you've slept. It made me vomit out of the blue with no nausea whatsoever. I do much better with an antipsychotic like zyprexa or seroquel, that's just my experience. Mileage will vary.

I didn't know zyprexa was an anti psychotic. I thought it was an anti-depressant. I know I've been on that before but I didn't think I had ever been on and anti psychotic. I'm gonna go look that up now.

I take 20 mg of abilify in the morning along with generic welbrutrin. It works wonders for my bi-polar and I have been on it for over 4 years. I have not had a manic attack the whole time I'v been taking it. No side effects except for maybe weight gain from eating too much.

Thanks Astroooooo. Strange thing is -- I'm getting less sleep, feeling very productive, getting stuff organized, generally in a good mood, and have more energy. I also feel like I'm talking talking talking, like, um ....... a lot. Too much. I end up rambling, repeating myself and being generally annoying.

I just need to post this before I forget it. I need to remember it for when I see my pdoc again. Hopefully soon. Thursday night fell asleep after midnight Friday morning got up at 5am (5 hours of sleep) Friday night (Saturday morn) fell asleep at 5am Saturday morning got up at 930am (4.5 hours of sleep) Saturday night (Sunday morn) got to sleep after 1am Sunday morning (I have to be at my sisters house no later than 10) got up at 8am (7 hours sleep) May be I should start blogging this or something. I'm not getting near as much sleep as I normally do. Usually I sleep around 7 hours AND take a nap.

It's good to keep a journal when you're starting a new med, bring it with you to appointments with your prescriber so you have an accurate record of your sleep and behavior patterns. Hope your rest gets more consistent and longer Jen.

Thursday night 5 hours of sleep Friday night 4.5 hours of sleep Saturday night 7 hours sleep (nap) Sunday night 4 hours sleep (nap) Monday night 7 hours (nap) Tuesday night 5 hours (nap) Wednesday night 5 hours (nap) Thursday (nap) I think I need to take the Abilify earlier in the evening. I've been taking it around 9pm or later. I'm going to try taking it around 6 or 7p. I've been needing naps everyday no matter how much sleep I've gotten. I guess it's making me sluggish the next day.

Can't hurt to try, Jen. I had to change the time I took my SSRI's to offset my sleeping pattern. Can't remember what my exact schedule was, but I couldn't fall asleep until 4 hours or so after I went to bed. Soooooo, just took the med 4 hours earlier, problem solved. Simple solution.
