Wellbutrin???

Is anyone taking it or has anyone ever taken it before?
I'm just trying to get some feedback on this anti-deppresant. I just started taken it about 3 weeks ago, so far I've felt nothing, don't really know.

Anyonwe who replys to this, I greatly appreciate it!! Thanks

Butterfly Chaser,

Glad to see you over here. I have no experience with Wellbutrin. Are you taking it for depression or anxiety? It does take a few weeks for the meds to work. Sometimes as long as six or seven. If your not having any negative side effects then I would think it would be o.k. to keep on taking it. On the other hand if your feeling worse I would talk to the Dr. and get their feedback on it.

I have been taking it for 2 months, maybe a little longer and really don't feel any different. I'm also on Effexor XR.

I took a bunch of other meds but wellbutrin sr was the anti-depressant that worked the best. I've been on it for well over 2yrs now. I am also on Lithium and Topamax. That lil combo has worked for me for a long time now. I've tried others and they just didn't work.

Hi BabeGirl,

I gained 25 lbs while on Zoloft, over a 7 month period. I have since weaned my self off and find myself slipping back into depresson and excess anxiety.

I am now considering going back to my Dr. for an alternative for anxiety and depression.

Have you had any side effects while on Wellbutrin?

I know I need something to help me... but will not risk further weight gain.

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks, Cindy

No I haven't had any side effects with Wellbutrin Sr. I took Zoloft too. It didn't work for me. A lot of meds didn't.

I take a low dose of Wellbutrin. The good news is that it doesn't wreak havoc on the libido. Tha bad news for me anyway is that I am a bit jittery at times....some free floating anxiety. No teary blues though. And no weight gain at all, as a matter of fact I dropped 5 lbs.
It's been several months now, 6 I think.

Hi Butterflychaser,
I'm new here to Sober Recovery. I'm an alcoholic and I'v been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder/Manic depression. And my Doctor has prescribed a combination of Wellbutrin and Lexapro for my disorder. I'v been taking the wellbutrin for over 3years. The dosage of the medication had to be adjusted several times, and some of my meds. had to be changed a couple of times until my doctor got the right combination, and dosage. But I'v taken Wellburtin the whole time, my doctor just had to find the right combo. to go with it, before it worked right or helped my disorder.
And it does take time for it to begin to work properly. For me it took months. And I was told that happens with most people.
And it is working real good now, I just have to be sure and take it everyday.
If I were you I'd keep working with the doctor until they can come up with the right medications and dosages, until they can get it right for you. Everyone is different so the meds. or the combos. of meds. may have to be changed around a couple of times. Good luck, Bonni

Hi Bonni,
Thanx for your reply!!!! I'm going to the dr in a couple of more weeks, she'll then know if I need to "up" my dosage of wellbutrin, which I think so, cuz I'm really not feeling anything!! I basacly feel the same w/ less edgyness, if that makes any sense! lol
Did you ever missa day of not takiong your meds?? What's Lexepro like? Do you like that?
Talk to you soon

Smile Wellbutrin

Hi Butterflychaser,
You were asking me about my meds., if I ever missed any days taking them. Yes a few times, and it didnt bother me as long as it was no more then a day, but seems like if it was more then that, it did have some effect. I'd have headaches, get edgy, just to name a couple of side effects if I didnt take them. My Doctor advised taking them on a regular basis in order for them to work properly. And about the Lexapro, it works good as a combination with the Wellbutrin, but not alone, At one time I took Paxil combined with Wellbutrin, but it didnt work as well as it should, so my Doctor replaced the Paxil with Lexapro, and the combo. of it and Wellbutrin has worked well for me so far. Like my Doctor said you have to get the right combination for each individual.
Like I say, work with your Doctor to get the right combo. and right dosage, and given time they should work for you too.
Some people just has to have medications for their bipolar depressive disorders and others dont, I'v just accepted the fact that I'm one of those who does.
I hope you can get everything worked out with your Doctor, and start feeling better soon. Good luck, Love, Bonni

Wellbutrin didn't work for me, but I've been on nearly every anti-depressant, from the MAO inhibiters to SSRIs without success, until a combination of Effexor XR and Depakote was instituted. Of course, my problem was not just depression, but Bi-Polar Disorder.

I know that no one needs to hear this but a psychiatrist needs to really be involved with the monitoring of any of these drugs. Some anti-depressants, like the older tri-cyclics, have cardio-vascular symptoms and, let me tell you, the MAOs, like Parnate and Nardil, almost killed me since I didn't follow the diet. I don't even know if they are used anymore...

Hi, I'm from the NarAnon board but I fight the depression battle also. I have been taking Wellbutrin SR for a couple of years--it was originally 150mg (half dose) a day for adult ADD ('cause you don't really grow out of it, just how to manage it) When the depression hit due to home life and work stress (overstress!!) I went to full dose (1am adn 1pm) but for the anxiety (which would occur trying to decide which sandwich to order) my doctor put me on Buspar w/it...works like a charm. Took the edge off the anxiety w/out the fog feeling on Xanax (bad news, that one is) I don't "feel" the Wellbutrin or Buspar, it's what I don't feel---so, so sad or raging angry and no more butterflies for no reason. But everyone's body chemistry is so different---I am all for the Psych. dr. doing the medicating and mixing of these things. Good luck

ksos~~ I totally agree with you about the psyciatrist being involved, or just a counseler of some sort, because I believe that meds just don't work alone!! I think that YES you need someone to monitor you if you are taking meds, but I also truly beleive that while omn meds or just feeling depressed you should always have a "professional" to talk to!! ALWAYS!

closertohim~~ see I too, don't feel the wellbutrin, my doc told em that it's an anti depressant & also like zyban (to help quit smoking) which I smoke about a pack a day I have no interest in wanting to quit, I think that all mental really, you ahve to WANT to want to quit, just like drugs or alchol or any other addiction. But from what I understand, wellbutrin pretty much helps you with your obbsesive compulsive disorder, I can say that I don't crave meth like I use to, yes I get a small craving from time to time (which is normal) , but it's not a full blown out crazy craving, I'm so much more at ease now
thanks for sharing ya'll!
