| Depression cure for women only
Hi ladies. I decided to start this thread for women as I want us to share feminin advices but men can of course join us if they want to. I think it´s vital to have at least two nights a week for us and then try to be as good to ourselves as possible. It´s wonderful for the self-esteem and getting in touch with our femininity. Try taking a long, hot bath with oils and sprinkle rose petals on the water. Have a candle or scented oil-heater in the bathroom and listen to romantic music. Try Buddha Bar 3. It´s great. Afterwards, use oil to rub on your skin, bundle yourselves in bathrobes or towels and rest for a long time on the coach or a gymnase mat on the floor. Eat some dates from Madagaskar and drink green tea or mint tea with sugar. You´ll feel fully restored afterwards. In Paris there are Turkish baths I go to as often as I can. It´s wonderful. You must have them in the States. Try bellydancing. I´ve studied the dance for six years. You tone every muscle while you dance an alluring, feminine dance and you get in touch with your sensuality. Great post Lilya, I think Turkish baths are like steam baths which we do have here. I love taking myself to the hottubs that have steambaths. It's like going back to the womb. My favorite room is dark and wood paneled. Rubbing lotion on myself makes me feel good. Giving myself a facial as well. Ladies? Juls

I really like to redecorate, change the colors a bit, add some fresh flowers to living room, kitchen, and bedroom, change the pillows..Oh how I love pillows!!! I like the smell of lavender and sage put around the house, and lots and lots of candles....then a hot soak in the tub, my favorite nightgown on, lotion rubbed on and sit back and enjoy all the decorating I did.....

Juls, I read in other posts that you work in esthetique (sorry about the spelling). What a wonderful job it must be! As I´m a firm believer in giving myself two gifts every week as a boost, I have started peeling. My beauty expert tells me I need 8 sessions. Could you please explain it to me how it works? My skin is very fair and in good condition, but the peeling really makes it shine. I just don´t understand how the crystals works. Can it really take out the wrinkles? Waiting for a reply :p Quote:

Hi Lilya, First you have to tell me what type of peeling you are getting, although since you mention crystals I am assuming you are getting what is called Microdermabrasion. The way microdermabrasion works is by using extremely fine crystals to exfoliate the surface of the skin, thereby removing dead skin cells. When a good exfoliation is done, your skin will shine and look very glowy and healthy. This is because the newer skin cells are exposed after the dead ones are exfoliated. I am trained to do microdermabrasion, however there are limits to it. It can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but estheticians (at least here in US) are not allowed to do the deeper treatments that would eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. Research on microdermabrasion indicates that the treatment stimulates production of collagen. Collagen is what makes your skin look plump, and fills in lines and wrinkles among other things. I can give you lots more info, however I'm curious does your beauty expert not explain all of this to you when you have your treatment. I'm not meaning to sound critical in the least, just curious. There are also other types of peels, so if you have any more questions feel free to ask. Juls

Juls, Thanks a lot for your professional input. The reason I asked is that my beauty expert is evasive and unclear. I will be changing beauty parlors, because my skin is now breaking out in acnes. I think it has to do with the fact that my skin was badly irritated after my first session. She gave me a lot of new creams she sells - of course, she is promoting her own skin cream - and when I asked her the same questions I asked you, her answers are like: "Well, it can and it can not." When I persist, she becomes irritated. She claims to be able to take out the lines under my eyes, which are not deep anyway but when I ask her about how many sessions I need, she says: "We´ll see", but tried to charge me for 8 sessions. This is not acceptable to me, so I´m calling her after my lunchbreak to cancel my next session. Thanks again and I´ll certainly ask you about more info. Quote:

That is not good when an estetician does not explain things clearly. Many do just try to sell you alot of product. What exactly has she sold you? A simple thing that may help with the acne, is after you cleanse before using anything else on your skin wipe the area that is breaking out with peroxide on a cotton ball. If your skin was badly irritated after the first session, either she is being too aggresive with the treatment, or you skin is very delicate. Either way, the treatment should not be done to the extent of severely irritating your skin. Some peeling is normal however, since that is the dead skin coming off. Juls

She sold me some Italian stuff called "Dermo28" and claims nothing else can be used after her peelings. Yeah, right. After the first session my skin felt like it was baked in an oven - and that had nothing to do with the heat. Red, swollen and with burning sensation. She said she wanted to take out my wrinkles. I will try to find the peroxyde, I presume I can find it in Paris in a drug store. But I have cancelled my sessions with this lady and have booked myself at "Carita´s". I know it´s for movie stars and the prizes are a bit high, but it´s worth it. Thanks a lot for your advice! Quote:

~Heard some interesting beauty tips on the CBS Morning Show..from women around the world and what they do for beauty. Shalini Vadhera was the guest.... Brazil~Women rub sand on skin to exfoliate, an English co., Lusha is coming out with a body bar that incorporates sand and hydration. Japan~ Camellia oil, said to be the best oil for skin texture, it condtions, softens and nourishes. China~White tea, also known as Emperor's tea acts as environmental shield that free radicals cannot penetrate. Can be found in Origins products. India~ To thicken and strengthen thinning hair coconut oil works wonders. Vatika oil can be found in 'Little India" sections of big cities and in The Body Shop products. Scandinavia~In addition to drinking at leat 1.5 litres of pure spring water, they splash ice cold water on face to aid in skin's own natural functions. Evian spray on the face refreshes and sets make-up. ~~I'm going to try these!!!!!~

Tammie, Please don't rub sand on your face. It may be o.k. for the body, but could irritate the skin on your face. The ideal of splashing ice cold water on your skin has been around for awhile, however, depending on your skin type, the icy cold water can also cause capillary damage (the small blood vessels in your skin), leaving you with broking capillaries on your face. Lilya, It sounds like she did a deep peel on you, but did not prepare you for what to expect afterwards. After a few days, did you see any improvment in the texture of your skin? Juls

Also, I don't know about Carita's, but it's a good idea to call and ask questions about what type of facials are offered. If they treat you well over the phone, then they should treat you well in person. Because a Salon is expensive, doesn't always mean you get a good treatment. Also, if a salon is lower priced, it doesn't mean your getting a cheap treatment. I do a superb facial for seventy american dollars. Much less than most of the salons in my area.

Well, all in my book. LOL I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone. Cool water is great, splahing your face with alot of water is good also. When I was going to school studying to be an esthetician, I never heard anything about cold water improving the skins natural function. The function of the skin is to protect the body, and it is the largest eliminatory organ, meaning you eliminate toxins through your pores. Common sense and my knowledge of the skins functions don't give me any clue as to why cold water would help to improve that function. However, maybe they know something I don't. Like I said it used to be popular back in the day here, and when I was young I used to put ice cubes in the sink, with water and splash my face in it. Didn't help me with my acne though. Extremes in temperature can cause capillary damage because the blood vessels don't have time to respond, so they break. They open up to bring more blood to the surface of the skin, and then have to close back down again when the extra blood is not needed. Doing things (like the cold water) cause them to weaken as they react to the extreme in temperature. They are very delicate to begin with.

Tammie, Glad to be of help. Maybe we could start a "Skincare in Recovery," forum. LOL But seriously though, when we are feeling depressed, looking the mirror and see what we think is awful looking skin it doesn't help. I remember when I was feeling depressed and I thought my skin looked bad I didn't even want to leave the house. That's how I got into this field. I started going for facials when I was 27 because I had alot of problems with my skin. I wanted to be able to help others that were having problems so I went to school to become an esthetician. I didn't know how it would work out, because I don't have perfect skin. All the estheticians I ever had looked like they never had a blemish in their life. Very pretty women. So I was intimidated that I wouldn't fit in, in this field. However, it has been totally the opposite. I have a great clientele, and women give me the feedback that they like going to someone who has had problems and understands what they are going through. Having bad skin when I was younger was very traumatic for me, and I had very low self-esteem because of it. I prefer working with clients who have acne or other problems, because I know I can help them, and I know how it feels to see your skin clearing up. Juls

Great beauty advices! I´m in my element here! I went for my first peeling session at Carita´s. I won´t even tell you the prize. this is really my second peeling session - I´m to have eight at ten days intervals and my skin is just bruised and red. They sucked the acnes with some kind of vaccum and it hurt like hell. Then I got so much lotions and creams and oils - I don´t even know. I hope my skin will be better tomorrow. My favorite trick for irritated skin is the time-tested cucumber cure. Peel fresh cucumber and put it on your face for half an hour. Then rinse with ice cubes. I believe in cold water for the skin and I get a glow afterwards. The only skin cream I have known to really change the condition of the skin is the Karin Hertzog´s line. It´s from Suisse. You see visible changes and liverspots fade in older women. The new lifting cream from Roc is also dramatic. Eucalyptus with steam is very effective and zink paste is one of the best things I´ve used against pimples. I take Swedish vitamins for hair, nail and skin and they consist of folic acid, all B vitamins and zink. If I stop taking them for a month, I get pimples. I´m thinking of tinting my hear dark. I´m tired of my blond hair. The trouble is, dark tint fades out in my hair after a few shampoos. Do you know of any formula that works? Should I also get dark eyebrows to go with it? I´m very fairskinned so it might look silly. Juls, what are "gel nails"? I hear this all over town. My 16 year old niece is going to have them put on in a beauty parlor. Quote:

Sorry Lilya, I don't know about nails, but I've heard of gel nails. I think they are like acrylics. Keep us posted as to how your face is going. I want to know if the results you get made it worth it. They are doing intense peels on you. Juls

They are being aggressive, Juls, and I look worse every day. Now I have visible scars. Not good for an old neurotic like me, self-esteemwise. My new beauty expert claims this will all be worth it after my eight peeling session - if she hasn´t killed me by then However, I can feel my skin is getting somehow thicker. I cannot explain it. I decided to do this to spoil myself and congratulate myself on the unexpected money I won. But every prize has it´s drawback. However, I will go on and see how I feel after the next session. 10 days interval between sessions. Is this normal? Quote:
