| Loud Jew | My artistic depiction of what depression is
What depression feels like: What depression looks like: I don't know what compelled me to do these yesterday, I've found myself either unwilling or unable to work on music, so I've been working with other things instead.

WOW, I am surprized and a bit intrigued. Especially because I just posted about the similarities I saw between several people in their metaphors for depression and this is very much different. If you are interested it is in Jenna's bipolar journal thread. I really want to think about this for awhile to try to explain and really to understand. Do you, are you, feeling paralyzed in a depression? Thanks for sharing those.

It makes me feel like my brain is bleeding openly and that the gaping wounds in my skull are sucking in and feeling the world with such intensity that my mind can't deal with it and turns my emotions down or off. My mental image, or "putting a face to" the disease, takes the form of a morphing evil, at its best it is a beautiful elaborate dragon breathing fire down my neck, at its worst it is a gnarled, vile, disfigured clone of myself torturing me and enjoying every second of it (see picture 2). It reaches into my cranium and twists and contorts my brain trying to kill me.

I like it. (I learned that in art school, they teach you all those critical terms there). Really though, I do.

wow!! love it! Am i right that you did the make-up yourself? that the person is you? that you digitally edited the images a bit to darken and to 'white-out' the eyes in the 3rd pic? Once i get a decent computer with photoshop on it....i'd LOVE to borrow some of the originals and play with them!!!! i was just telling Tena (LiveWeyerd) yesterday about how much i love, love, love playing in photoshop (my attempts were totally ugly 2 years ago, lol). And that it's what i've missed the most over the past few months...oh, i miss it sooooo much!!! oh, fun fun!!!! i wish i had access to photoshop right now!!!!! Quote:
I think i have Tena finally talked into collaborating on a book with me...would you ever possibly be interested in something like that? I recently had an idea for a 'photo' book called something like "The True Face of Depression." And it could even be a 2-part kind of book....one part journalistic style photo captures of the real, life horror of major depression (ultimately it would be most successful if the images were of celebrities or other well-known depressives) ... and the 2nd part could be digital manipulations and photo concepts (like yours here) to represent strong quotes from major depressives. I'd LOVE to collaborate on some of that with someone as artistic and creative as this! Especially for the 2nd-half portion of the book. oh fun, fun. i can't believe i hadn't already checked this thread yesterday, but glad i did tonight. i've felt pretty rough today and i love seeing images and words that inspire this side of me....the happy, creative side.

And it's nice to see you out of the forrest, frolicing among the fields and posting (i can't think of any deer-related thing for 'posting' other than "marking your scent in the area" but that just seemed....too much. lol)

....and immensley theraputic. I have always found peotry, drawing, music and generally all art forms as a wonderful way to get my thoughts feelings and warped emotions out of me. I think it is great that you are realising and releasing this energy in such a highly creative way. My favourite quote from the film Shrek ''Better out than in, thats what I always say''. Love and joy to you Lily xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Your work is exquisite! I miss that allot in people, healthy ways to express them self's. It defiantly saddens me that so many of us in the world feel it in similar ways. Twisting into convoluted madness just go too far!! Thanks for your kind words to me!

Thanks for putting a visual and a verbal representation to something that i have known ever since i can remember but have never been able to express. I am unsure if i simply dont have the words to name it or whether i am simply too repressed to own it. But whatever I thank you for your articulate and creative posting.
