| Question about Seroquel
My daughter is an opiate addict who is 52 days clean and in a halfway house working a strong program. She is on Suboxone and 50 mgs of Trazadone for sleep. The doctor prescribed her 25 mgs. of Seroquel to take as needed for her anxiety. My question is about the weight gain side effect. She is also a bulimic although for now she has that under control. I am trying to stay out of her recovery but told her I would post here and see what people think. Also are there other non-addictive anti-anxiety drugs that don't cause weight gain that might be better for her to consider. She has a doctor's appointment tomorrow and told me I can come and ask the doctor any question that I want. Thanks, Marle

Please give your daughter my most sincere congratulations on her recovery. I pray that it remains strong and lasting. :praying I can only tell you that, for me, Seroquel was far too strong. It made me a zombie. I couldn't tolerate it. I have used BuSpar in the past with good results. It has no weight gaining properties that I'm aware of. Today, I use Topamax, 100 mg, for anxiety. But, it's an off label use. And as a side effect, it has weight loss, (slight). So, it's probably *not* a good idea for your daughter who has an eating disorder. It wouldn't be advisable. Others will come around with their experience. But, please know, I'm very happy for you and your daughter! ![]() Please let us know how she makes out with the appointment. We care. ![]() Shalom!

I use seroquel for sleep but I also take the generic for Vistril as needed for anxiety with no negative side effects. It actually helps my seasonly itching as well from allergies. That may be worth asking about. I will say a prayer for your daughter.... Take Care Kerry

Ihated seroquel it made me so tired and just was not the right med for med. I have been on so many meds I am trying to think I am on paxil it seems to be working okay so far. I wason lexapro for a long time but I think it quit working that is why I am on paxil now. You might go to a website called crazymeds, com it tells you a lot about all the differnt meds. Seroquel works for many people I just cannot really say. Good luck Kelly... |
