| Zoloft and 5htp
Hi all, I have been on Zoloft for 14 years and I would like to get off of it because it is so expensive but every time I go off it my head gets squirmy and woozey and my ears ring like crazy.. This time I am trying 5htp from the health food store to try and make the withdrawal easier. Has anyone out there had any luck with 5htp? Thanks, jja |

I have no experience with 5htp.I do have experience with anti depressants, including Zoloft.I would strongly suggest that you not do anything without your doctor's approval and supervision. If cost is the only factor, you may want to talk with your doctor.Sometimes they have samples of medication that they can give you.I go in every month and get my medication this way,and they don't charge me for it.You may just need to make them aware that the expense is a problem. It can't hurt to ask.In any case, please be very careful....and be sure to follow your doc's advice. phoenix |

I also tried several times to go of Cetalopram (cipramil) but I got into trouble. I got more depressed then ever and took me a long time to get back on track. I talked to my doctor about the cost, as my medicin is costly as well, and he found the same kind of medicin but under a different name and it´s almost half the prize. I agree with Phoenix, don´t do anything without talking to your doctor. Best of luck,

Thanks, Phoenix and Lilya for the input. You put into words what I was thinking. Anyway, I went back on my Zoloft. Isn't it funny how people that are on meds and doing well on the meds always want at some time or other to get off of it. The med has worked so well for so many years and I really can afford it , so keep it simple, right? Truelearn, it's always good to hear another side but do you really think that no one ever needs medication and that the twelve steps will cure chemical depression? Bill Wilson was severly depressed and struggled with it most of his life. Love, JJ |

Good going, girl! I´m glad you´re back on your meds. I think that one of the reason we don´t want to be on meds is that we simply don´t want to take anything chemical, now that we´m re sober. I have trouble taking simple painkillers and avoid them, even when I have a bad headache. I think it has also something to do with shame, although I´m not sure why. But anyway, my doc says depression is like diabetes. Don´t worry and keep going. Love and light,

So true Lilya, I thought taking medication would drug me up but after my Dr. helped me with the right dose I was able to work a better program because I could focus and concentrate. Otherwise I was manic or depressed and couldn't be of service to anyone. I surrender! JJ |

Hi, Here's something that might give you a laugh. I'd like to come off my medication, because I'm afraid that if there's a terrorist attack, I might not be able to get it. As it is I stockpile some of it just in case. LOL Juls |
