Time for a new thread. Here's the link to part 1: http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...epression.html (Movie Club against depression) Feel free to share your favorite movies. I cried all night the other night watching the Sound of Music! ![]() But, they were good tears! It was a walk down memory lane to a simpler time. A happier time. Anyone else? Shalom!

Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, anything with puppets and good special effects to take me away to a special place. Oh and *anything* with Will Farrell in it to make me laugh really hard.

The only movie that I really like that isn't depressing is "Elf." A good movie at this time of year though. I love sad movies. There's something cathartic about depressing movies for me. And do I know some sad flicks! Oh, and "Philadelphia Story" that's a classic I couldn't live without. A few scenes showing the futility of drunkenness! Jimmy Stewart and Kathrine Hepburn together... it's a symphony of acting skill! |

Harvey; an old classic with a very young Jimmy Stewart. He was a drunk with an imaginary 6 foot rabbit friend. It's hilarious, without being a bit derogatory to those with alcohol problems. A "gotta see" film! ![]() Shalom!

The film that always makes me feel good is Love Actually - it's so uplifting I love it. It's so true - if you want to see happiness go to the international arrivals hall in the airport!

I tend to watch "Under the Tuscan Sun" anytime it's on TV, even though I know better - I cry every dang time. I own the dvd, too. Also, "Bruce Almighty" and "Ever After."

I saw "Seabiscuit" during a particularly rough patch and that gave me a huge boost to my spirits. Great film. Also "Gattaca" and "Serenity" come to mind as being mood improvers. |

"Defending Your Life" with Meryl Streep and Albert Brooks, I think. And "The Muse" with Andi MacDowell and Albert Brooks. "The Big Lebowski" makes me laugh every time I see it. "The Full Monty" "The Milagro Bean Field War" "Rock the Cradle" "High Fidelity" With John Cusack, whom I'm pretty sure wants to meet me...LOL Love, Lenina |

What works best for me is action movies: Black Hawk Down, anything with military/fighting. Grabs my attention and holds it which the upbeat, happy ones don't.

"Secondhand Lions" I think it balances out seriousness, sadness, and hilarity with brilliance. I find that whatever mood I'm in, this movie will only make me feel better. |
