I'm watching Chaos with Jason Statham... I love a good action movie. This is not a good action movie. It is a hilariously awful action movie.

It's so bad it's almost a parody of bad.

I haven't laughed so hard in ages.

AWESOME!

Wanted to bump this thread, I'm a movie buff, and find a good movie helps pass the time when the depression is all consuming.

Anyway I spent the day baking and watching Christmas Vaction and A Christmas Story, not sure which one I love more but both remind me of carefree Christmas's when I did not have to worry about buying gifts, just receiving them.

I didn't read all of the two threads.

"As it is in heaven" is a Swedish movie that I found inspiring. It is about a bullied kid who becomes a conductor in an orchestra in adulthood, collapses from stress and moves back to where he was bullied. From there he teaches a church choir and it brings up many issues everyone is having in their life. There is a beautiful song that an abused wife sings about empowerment. The ending has a unique event involving choirs at a choir contest...

"Happy-go-lucky" stars lovely Sally Hawkins who plays a kindergarten teacher who is unphased by negativity that she is treated to. She interacts with people with various issues with anger and mental illness in the course of the movie. I could relate to her and the people she deals with and look at myself. At the very beginning there is a scene with people getting drunk that could possibly be a trigger for someone.

"Mary and Max" is about an Australian child who befriends a man with Asbergers syndrome in New York as pen pals. It shows them coping with all sorts of issues that I can relate to and is charming. An example: Mary describes her neighbor who is afraid to leave his home because he has homophobia.

"The story of luke" is about a mildly autistic man who gets a job to stay in his dead parent's house. I'm not sure how to describe why this is uplifting to me.

If you want to increase your depression, you could watch "Wake in fright" about an Australian school teacher who gradually destroys his life with the help of alcohol.

If you want to cry and hear great music, you could watch "Frozen".

There are so many movies that I watched while drunk that I want to see again, since I missed parts of the movies...

Laughing Out Loud

When I'm feeling blue the goofiest movies can lift my spirits: Monty Python's Holy Grail, Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein and Guardians of the Galaxy which is in the theatres, now.

When I'm in a more high brow depression, I go for an English film called Enchanted April. It's a beautiful, charming story about love and acceptance (and so much more) AND my husband, who is really into shoot-em-ups even loved it.

I've been trying to A. lose myself in movies lately. B. Use movies to help keep out of depression because I love movies. You try to do stuff you love right? In the last week or so I've seen Divergent--ok, more a kid movie, the Upside of anger. Liked it mostly for Joan Allen. Sometimes in April-- about the Rwandan genocide and Hotel Rwanda- second time I've seen this one. I've been in the mode of only wanting to see movies I haven't seen but Hotel Rwanda was as amazing the second time as the first. Feel guilty about taking the time to watch but it's been working out pretty well actually and since I'm only 2 weeks into recovery, I'm still kind of tired anyway, Everything I've watched has been on HBO I'm pretty sure. Anything else interesting on hbo, encore or comcast free right now I'd appreciate.

I forgot the Book Thief--and today watched Bessie--about blues singer Bessie Smith starring Queen Latifah. I might go lighter today and watch We're the Millers, been curious about it for awhile and I love Jennifer Aniston..:-)
