Suicide prevention According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, more than 30,000 people in the U.S. die by suicide every year, making it the country’s 11th leading cause of death. During Suicide Prevention Week, learn how to spot the warning signs of suicide. • Suicide: Understand causes, signs and prevention http://www.revolutionhealth.com/cond...and?msc=a62593 • Suicide: Offering help and support when someone is suicidal http://www.revolutionhealth.com/cond...elp?msc=a62593 • More on depression http://www.revolutionhealth.com/cond...on/?msc=a62593 Remember, it's not our place to play doctor. We cannot be a substitute for a mental health professional. But, we can learn some basic information to help others during a difficult time. And please, never swear an oath to secrecy. You may have to break that oath, and create other problems. As a teacher, I tell my students they can tell me anything, but, I am *required* to inform someone else if they tell me they are a danger to themself or someone else, or they are being abused. Anything else is private if they so wish, (though I may counsel them to discuss things with parents, counselors, religious leaders or whomever...). Point being, it's not safe, and not our place to keep an unsafe secret. I hope you find this information informative and interesting. ![]() Shalom!
