Grounding

I have been up and down and inside out lately. One thing that has kept me from going over the edge has been an excercise I was taught at the VA. Sometimes I need to reel myself in. I thought I'd share it with others inhopes it might help. The doctor taught me an excercise called grounding. I've been able to apply it either at home or on the go. The secret, is to remember to use it. What he had me do was sit down. Make a mental note of where I am. Then what I am wearing. He then had me take a mental inventory of the room. First count and make note of the colors of walls and rug. Then the pictures on the wall. Any plants in the room count them. I can even do this while on a bus. I use signs, buildings and people. This is really helpful after a PTSD session. Hope this helps. I've heard of other methods of grounding also. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'd love to learn them too.

Great Don! It's is so good to see you around again...

This is what I used to ground myself at a new job.
Everything was foreign to me and I needed something to bring me back to
reality and the here and now.
I tucked inside my pocket a tiny hairbrush of my granddaughter's. Whenever a perceived "stressful" event took place, I held the tiny hairbrush in my hand while still hidden in my pocket.
It brought me back to what was important to the here and now, and the "event" surely dissolved into something much more manageable.

I was touted as a calm, relaxed and composed "new" employee even though I thought I was a mess! Grounding is an excellent tool for everyone to use...if only we would remember to use it.
Love you Don. Glad you are closer to Florida!
Hugs,
Wolfie

I have never heard of a grounding exercise described that way. There is a Grounding Visualization Meditation that I use at home. I kinda have my own take on it and don’t follow it exactly as described on kundalini-teacher.com Enjoy.
