I feel like I am going nuts. I am a regularly normal, functioning person, but feel like I will explode inside. I am on Zoloft as of yesterday. I am also on Clonopin Rxed at 2mg per day. I drink alchohol, and am afraid that I am turning into an alchoholic! I dont know what to do. I am truly hurting, like a physical ache in my chest. Any advice welcome......email me at jamie.dell.iokt@statefarm.com. For some reason I am at work bawling. I have a great husband now and a good life. We just got a house. I have no excuse to feel like this. I can read posts but not reply till I get home. Please help!!!

Letting go, Looks like your taking care of your mental health, now what about your physical health? Have you had a check-up lately? Maybe you need to have that "ache" looked at. The meds take some time to work, so be patient. And remember, it sometimes takes some med re-adjustments before the doc finds what is right for you. Take care of yourself. God bless |

See your doc again and be very honest about what you are doing and how you feel. And please try not to drink. With the meds you are on it could be very harmful.Zoloft takes a few weeks to reach an effective level in your system, but you may start to feel better faster than that. But alcohol is a depressant, and so it will make it harder for the Zoloft to help you.I know how it is to have a great life and still struggle with depression. That's because depression of this sort is a result of our brain chemistry being out of balance. The good news is that it's very treatable and you can feel good again.Give yourself a chance and don't drink. phoenix |

The fact that you report that you have a great life with no excuse to feel rotten tells me your depression is chemical and not situational in nature. You are SO not alone! This is very common. Give the drugs a chance to work and lay off the booze. Keep posting!

Thanks all for the responses. I do believe it is a chemical issue now but I think it comes from the situation I was in with my exr addict. I went thru a couple of years of terrible panic attackes, fighting, drug raids, bankruptcy, and on with 3 kid to care for my own. I think I have some PTSD. Hopefully this helps. Are most on it for life? How long till it kic kes in? I have recently had a pysical and they ran a full blood test etc... all is well. The ache only comes with stress....

You're not necessarily on it for life. Sometimes people go on medications temporarily to help them through something. If you think you have PTSD, you might want to check out the EXCELLENT PTSD board here on Sober Recovery. Many folks over there have experienced similar things. Anti-depressants usually take a few weeks to work, so hang in there! It also sometimes takes a few tries to get medications that will work for you. I have bi-polar and perhaps some PTSD, so I have mostly been there. Take care! |
