| Just starting!
Hello friends, I am a 34 yr. old husband, father, and small business owner. I drank heavily as a young adult as did my wife. We hardly drank for most of our marriage...until my wife started going out with friends...then comming home later and later....until we finally ended up splitting up six years ago over her infidelity....We were able to patch things up and move on and even to flurish....I had a thriving contracting business...then had to have surgeries on both arms for tendonitis...and her having lower back surgery. I could no longer work my business due to my arms. We decided to move to Florida....I love the area and wish I had moved years ago, but the people that we met drank alot...so I followed suit(the wife doesn't drink anymore)....It has gotten to were I was hiding it....then lying....it seems as if I can't face the world without having a beer or twelve! When I know I can....I wasn't always this way. I am fortunate for having a business that allows me to stay at home....but on the flipside it allows me to do other things also. My wife has found all of my hiding places....and knows tell tale signs I exhibit when drinking....so not only do I want to quit but trying to fool her is over. I am an avid diver(scuba and breathhold) and spearfisherman.....I live right across from the beach...and figure that if I keep myself consumed with diving and spearing fresh fish.....as well as immerse myself into my fledgling custom speargun business I can beat this thing. This forum is a great idea...I am a member of another forum for spearfishing...and have met some really great people there. |

| Welcome Spearo! Feel free to share whatever, whenever. You may also want to post in the newcomers forum. Lots of help to be found from both men and women. I have never dived but it sounds like fun.

Welcome to SR It is great reading that you both worked things out. Wonderful. As for the diving replacing the drinking... You are just masking the problem. ok beat me silly...bad joke *LOL* Keeping yourself busy takes care of the idle time that could lead to wanting to fill with drinking. What would be good along with the filling of time, try looking at when, where, "why" and how you drink. Research, gather info, and as needed ... the tools that help stay off any desires or reasons for wanting the drink. Keep posting and reading here and you may want to see what AA meetings can gain you for support and infomation. Not drinking would give better health and I am sure you know that would increase your ability for free dives. Most I ever did was sit at the bottom of my pool for 20 minutes when my friend showed me how to use his tank. Sure would be nice hitting the ocean. Maybe when my son heads to FL for school, a visit down that way and finding a local dive shop would be the thing to do.

The freediving is alot more free feeling I can hit 80 fsw and still have around 20 or so seconds to cruise the bottom or spear a fish.....not bad for a smoker...but that is another addiction I love scuba too, but it is more of a boat thing...too much gear to lug across the street then back weighing even more with the watersoaked gear .Thanks for the encouragement guys....feeling really jumpy, twitchy, and sleep like crap last night! Yeah try it out Best, If you come to the panhandle....I can hook you up with a open water course.... |
