Grew up with the Stanley Cup in Montreal in the sixties and seventies. The Habs went 60-8-12 one season... Moved to Toronto and lived on Wood Street for a time, next to Maple Leaf Gardens. I could hear the crowd though the walls of my apartment on game nights. Drank a lot of beers with Wendel Clark a few times at the Bermuda Tavern on Yonge. I have two teams. I'm blessed |

![]() Just playin' You got a tough club to root for up there this year, getting a little long in the tooth. When they aren't playing the Flyers (yeah, I know, I have no idea what a Flyer is either) I root for them, especially against those snooty Les Habitants. The battles with the St. Louis Blues in the 80's playoffs were legendary. Made me a hockey fan for life (and sadly, made my brother a Blues fan for life )

Hockey? They still play that game? I thought everyone quit. Boston Bruins rocked (in the 60s-70s) Now they have a deal... buy one ticket and get one free in the reserved section. What they don't tell you... the reserved section needs mountain climbing gear to get to it *LOL*

Third period about to start, Habs down five to one. It was a very quiet crowd at the old Forum on Atwater Street. During intermission, my uncle had bought me the best hot dog in the world, and he had himself half a dozen cups of Molsons on tap, real beer ![]() As the players jumped on the ice for their skate around warm up, you could sense something different, and that there must have been a tense twenty minutes in the Montreal locker room. The Pocket Rocket, Henri Richard, kid brother of legend Maurice Richard, scored two quick goals in the opening two minutes to bring the score to 5-3. A tiny man by todays standards, number 16 Richard then proceeded to harrass Derek Sanderson, Boston's number 16, to the point of making him lose his composure and drop the gloves. The resulting penalties gave the Habs a two minute powerplay, and another goal to make it 5-4. At mid-period, off a feed from Richard, rookie Guy Lafleur motored up the right side of the ice and let go one of his patented slap shots from the blue line. Boston goalie Gerry Cheevers didn't even have time to wave at the puck, and the scrore was tied. Followed some of the best two way, up and down the ice, whistle free hockey, the kind of which is rarely seen today. With barely a minute left, in the middle of a scramble in front of Cheevers' net after a rebound, the Pocket Rocket somehow got the blade of his stick on the puck, while lying under a pile of players, and slid it in for the winning goal. The headline in the local sports rag the next morning, was much like the one number 5, Rocket Richard had earned a few times in the fifties. But this time, it was his kid brother that was being celebrated. Henri Richard 6 Boston 5. ![]() Just needed to insert that little historical note. The Bruins did indeed have a great team then, winning the cup in '70 and '72.

I used to go to a lot of games and I'd/we'd start at the Imperial Public Library on Dundas near Church. Then up to Lindy's for supper and then off to the game. Afterwords, you name it.

Do they get points just for showing up to a game? Last game I had seen...14 years ago. I drove the NJ devils to the Garden from their hotel. Tie game against the first place Bs at the time. I then drove the happy Devils to the airport for their plane ride home. I have never met such a great group of people in my whole life. Tuff on the ice but gentle off the ice. www.newjerseydevils.com/

hey another Torontonian. I grew up playing hockey but I don't follow the Leafs anymore. I think everyone acted like babies last year and I am not going to reward them by watching. However if they do well in the playoffs, I may adopt a Homer Simpson type, johhny come lately, fan type.....lol

St Louis Blue blood here!! Sad season, I think they actually played better last year!! I haven't been to a Blues game in years because I relocated half way across the country, but last year returned to the midwest. I now live in the home of the Blues AAA farmteam the Peoria Rivermen and have as good a time going to those games for $12 a pop as I ever did watching $50 NHL games!! Plus the way the Blues are playing this year, I think the Rivermen could take them on a good night!! Long live Hockey!!
