I'm going to respect everyone's right to anonymity, and not name names Honestly, I hear recovery "lingo" all the time, whether it's a minister, cashier, or anyone I happen to cross paths with. I used to assume it was because someone had experience with a recovery program, but now I believe it's a result of the literature that's used, much of what I hear in recovery also comes from the Bible.

Funny you should bring this up - I was watching one of those judge shows recently and he gave a plug for NA. He talked about a "friend" doing "90 in 90" and sponsorship. G

Some times, you hear key words or phrases you know, a person is in or has been in recovery. A rock star of a movie star etc. can go a lot farther then, rest of us. A girl I know here used to hook up Willie Nelson when, he was traveling on tour. Lot of people like to hook up the rock and country stars. Sooner or later though, they have to get clean and sober if, they're one of us though!!!

In the movie "Iron Man" during Tony Starks public adress towards the end of the movies he is getting honest with the public about not wanting to be a weapons manufacturer. However, during the address Robert Downey slips in that he had to after "Making a fearless and thourough moral inventory of his character defects" MY jaw dropped.

If you watch the sopranos I always see AA phrases... When Tony is going to send his kid to military school the headmaster is obviously in recovery from his word choice... I also seemed to have noticed a lot of AA slogans on someones refrigerator in the show...

Firehazard, growing up I was a huge comic book fan. In the books, the character Tony Starks (Iron Man) was actually a raging alcoholic, though they decided to avoid that storyline for the movie treatment. Rare convergence of player and part, eh? TheSunAlsoRises, good catches. I believe the alcoholic on the show was Chris's mother; the character Chris had his own serious struggles with substance abuse (heroin). Between that and the Wire, HBO has really made some quality shows. |
