Sexual Predators

In my area, the men generally outnumber women in the rooms, but because my area is fairly large...there's still a huge amount of women.

I keep hearing people talk about sexual predators in the fellowships, and 10 times out of 10 they are talking about men chasing after vulnerable women in recovery. I'm well aware that this type of behavior exists, but I'm a bit leery as to whether every man that assertively approaches a woman is a sexual predator. Just seems to me that the label gets slapped on men too easily and too frequently.

I mean, is there some type of gender bias going on here? And are we to really believe that women don't engage in the same type of behavior? I can't count the times I've been pursued by oldtimer women when I was a newcomer. And if women think that men are the only ones that try to work a 13th step, they've got another think coming.

Comments? Concerns?

Men arent the only ones guilty of this. I have been 13th stepped more times than I can count. One ended up with me having to put a restraining order on her.

I agree Mike, it works both ways. There are two women in my area, both of them grabbed a guy fresh out of rehab. One of the women goes on about how she more or less stalked him etc. The rest of us roll our eyes when, she tells this story. The other lady that grabbed one out of rehab was married. Guess what, that one didn't last, they married and got divorced shortly there after.

Either way, no one should be trying to pick up another member in the program when, they're new commers. We are a sick lot, our habits aren't too far removed from how we acted in the bars!

OMG!! That happens soooooo often!! In the last few years at least five oldtimer women snatched up newcomer men as soon as they got out of treatment, jail or rehab. These women were all established (home, job, car, money) and they'd buy the men clothes, jewelry and move them into their homes. A couple of the men relapsed, the others (after getting a sponsor and doing some step work) began to learn who they were and moved on. One woman is notorious for picking up newcomers...she gets one or two every year.
