Does anybody here play poker online? I am mostly a freeroller but I use my freeroll winnings to play cash games. It is a cheap hobby for meas it only costs me the electricity I use to run my computer. It is around $7.00C4 per month.

I do. Way back, I forget how long ago - before the law changed in the US about using offshore accounts for poker, I deposited $100 on Poker Stars. I've been playing with the same $100 for several years, small-stakes sit-n-go's mostly. Win some, lose some. |

I've played online poker at both PartyPoker and PokerStars. I'm on a hiatus right now but I'm looking to get back into it in a few months. Yes, the laws on Internet Poker sucks right now but Obama is a poker player so there is hope that he'll finally make it legal.

Cool BDP. You should try freerolling, which is building up your bankroll from nothing. I just got a check for $200 from one site where I have never deposited. I woulda hit the bar with that cash before but not now. Maybe I will buy something for my better half. She deserves it. If you want some tips and sites to go to to try your hand at freerolling let me know here and I will post.

yeah, I freerolled a few months ago and managed to get my bankroll up to a decent level for small stakes poker. But then I went on massive tilt and lost it all. haha! that happens quite a bit when I play online which is one reason why I'm on a hiatus.

what a rough 2 months its been for me! shortly after cashing out the first time I was on pace to make another cashout of the same amount but then I started tanking big time. I wish I would have just cashed out despiting not being right on the amount I had set for myself--I was only short $10! anyway, I ended up busting and had to play freerolls to build my bankroll back up. since then it's just been a slow grind. The other day I cashed out a very small amount which left me with an equally small amount to play with. the only good thing was that with this recent cashout, I am even for the year in online play so even I do go broke I will not be an overall loser. but lets hope that doesn't happen! I'm hoping for atleast 1 more cashout by the end of the year

I don't gamble - never have in any big way, cos I could see me liking it... Gambling, for me, is just another manifestation of my inner addict - any of you guys worried about that at all? ![]() D

Dee, I am slightly worried as I have struggled with playing blackjack over the years but I also know I have the ability to stay away from the game and focus on poker. I know poker is gambling too but it is a beatable game unlike all the other house games(unless you're a card counter--a whole other story). Ironically it's the casinos edge that keeps me away from all other table games and slots--I have no desire to play these at all. But it doesn't keep me away from blackjack. I know I have the ability to stay away from blackjack as there was a period of about a year where I didn't play it at all and I was at the casino atleast once a week playing poker. But lately poker in the casino has been kinda boring and when I get bored I get the urge to play blackjack. I know I'm gonna lose but I just can't stay away. I just need to resist my urges and walk past the tables without looking at them like I used to. and right now I think it's best for me to stay away from the casinos all together until I'm in the mood to play poker there and just be happy with playing online(online poker is better primarily b/c its alot faster along with some other reasons). |

Poker is beatable if you know what you're doing. Because the house has no edge whatsoever, the edge comes from your skill and the skill of your opponents. Sure, luck plays a factor in any one session and you will not win everytime you play. But if you're constanly making good decisions and playing well you will come out ahead in the long run.

I know a few people that have lost quite a bit over time, some of them were known to be very good except for one thing... they didn't know when to quit. Kinda like drinking I guess. For anyone having troubles this looks like a good site Help With Problem Gambling | Responsible Gambling Council - Problem Gambling Prevention Awareness Research Information

Casino poker is one of the worst games to play at a casino, it is stacked in the house's favour as the house has to qualify in order to have to pay anything more than 1-1. Texas holdem, omaha, stud, draw etc against people is where you will find players who are good at reading other people and have the experience to calculate the odds of any single action they take in order to win or minimise loses per hand. I can't believe i am writing this next sentence...for a recrovered alcoholic gambling is not good and will most likely lead to picking up the drink again...ridiculous! |

Just made another small cashout just now. I'm now officially ahead on the year for online poker. It may not be much but atleast it's something. and I still have a decent roll for the stakes I'm playing. lets keep it up. I'm hoping for atleast 2 more cashouts by Dec. 31st!

well after the last cashout things took a turn for the worse so I decided to take a hiatus from online play. I've been playing for a few weeks off and on and doing alright so I decided it's time for another cashout, the first of the year. I didn't leave myself that much to play with but with a little luck I can rebuild my bankroll to a comfortable level again. Here's hoping this is just the first of many cashouts for the year!!

Thought I would join in. I play PKR and limit my account so I can only deposit $25 a month ( and I don't deposit every month). Not been on for a few months and put my 25 dolla on 5 days ago. Just cashed out $100 and I still have $170 in my poker account. Not bad $250 profit in 5 days, but its never guaranteed and I try not to get carried away with it. Play only with what you don't mind loosing. Best wishes for your day guys. J. |

Haha I just came across this. I agree with Dee...gambling was the most addicting thing I think I ever came across. It was like an opiate high just numbing out but I did it like it was an upper. I mostly gambled on Poker but really anything (Blackjack too). If you are an addict, this is treading slippery grounds. No matter how you shape it, the game will constantly come down to luck...trust me. It doesn't matter how good you are or think you are, luck will prevail. And for an addict, it is easy to get sucked in which in turn doesn't matter what you gamble on as it will never be enough. Just as with alcohol or drugs, logic i.e., don't do it too often, limit yourself, etc. does not work for those who begin to have their addict minds search outlets in other areas. I will say however, that just because someone is allergic to oranges (alcohol or drugs) doesn't mean they can't eat strawberries (gambling) but when this stuff centers in the mind as it does with us, you better be real careful as our heads are known to flip the script on us. |
