I was a huge fan in the 80's and 90's, but fell out of touch as I got older. I still love listening to their older work though, it's amazing how long they've been cranking out great music. Funny you posted this. I've been listening to one of their greatest hits CD's in my truck lately.

I might have to check it out then. Their newer stuff just didn't grab me like Caress Of Steel, Farewell To Kings, or my absolute favorite, Hemispheres.

HUGE Rush fan here. They started me down the road of progressive, which eventually lead me to progressive/metal. I've seen them prolly 3 or 4 times live. Last was in 989, during the Test for Echo tour. Got to see 2112 in it's ENTIRETY, AND Natural Science. That show kicked some serious a**. My favorite stuff is late 70s, early 80s. PW & Moving Pictures are their strongest, IMO. Signals and Grace were good to, but I lost them after that. I'm dying to get my hands on S&A. Everything I've read so far has been positive. As a side note, have you read Ghost Rider by NP ? Great book !

of course, i don't listen too much of the newer stuff. Working man got a bit of radio air time for a while. yeap... moving picture, lots of great guitar work on it. signals came out right after that, but nothing compair to moving pictures...I think it refers to the pictures we see in our minds...moving pictures the latest thing I got by rush is the live in rio dvd. have the chornical cd. One of the first song I learned was 2112 , temple of syrinx. I think he's talking ourselves...what do you think? lots of spiritual messages..or it gets me to think.. what's the name of the last song on moving pictures ? I love that song. |

Oh man, I forgot all about that song- Unstable condition, A symptom of life In mental and environmental change. Atmospheric disturbance, The feverish flux Of human interface and interchange. The impulse is pure; Sometimes our circuits get shorted By external interference. Signals get crossed And the balance distorted By internal incoherence. A tired mind become a shape-shifter, Everybody need a mood lifter, Everybody need reverse polarity. Everybody got mixed feelings About the function and the form. Everybody got to deviate from the norm. An ounce of perception, A pound of obscure. Process information at half speed. Pause, rewind, replay, Warm memory chip, Random sample, hold the one you need. Leave out the fiction, The fact is, this friction Will only be worn by persistence. Leave out conditions, Courageous convictions Will drag the dream into existence. A tired mind become a shape-shifter, Everybody need a soft filter, Everybody need reverse polarity. Everybody got mixed feelings About the function and the form. Everybody got to elevate from the norm...

I think it was the summer of or fall of '80 or '81... I heard Tom Sawyer on the radio... it was like magic to me. I went to record store with my lawnmowing money to buy the album.. I pretty much played it non-stop for weeks!! Then I 'discovered' the earlier stuff, like Hemispheres, Farewell to kings, Caress of Steel... it's all good!! Seen them live many times, too.
