White knights - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

Urban Dictionary: white knight
1. White Knight
A person (usually a male) who sees the typical maiden in distress, and believes that he can help her. A male version of the "mother figure" that some girls become.
"Why is he going out with her? She's broken, and a little crazy."
"The fool's just being a White Knight."

How common is this in alkie/addict guys? I have realized that every girl I have ever dated has had a pretty big drug/alcohol problem. I don't think I am this(I hope), but I have heard from other guys who were in relationships with women with big issues (like alcohol/drugs) who described themselves as this. Personally, I think most women are crazy(note I didn't say all). You add alcohol and drugs into the mix... it's too much. I don't like to be black and white, but it seems like almost every woman I have met in recovery is batshit crazy. Not that us men in recovery are anything special, but this is the men's forum for a reason. I am wondering if some guys get trapped in the same cycle that you hear alanon women talking about.... or we attract what we put out etc.... Not sure which one it is (or both), but I think this is worth discussing.

Ever consider that you might be looking in the wrong place? My wife & I have had 30 great years together. She came into the marriage with nowhere NEAR the emotionally screwed up baggage that I have. If she had, we surely would have self destructed years ago!

That's what I got.

Church has got healthy women. Or how about other "clubs' of motivated people, accomplishing things, that aren't focused on themselves (ie not a gym etc)
