United 93

I just got back from the theater after watching this movie with a couple of other addicts. It was a very powerful movie that was straight forward and respectful. I have never been to a movie with a reaction like this one after the credits rolled, THe entire theater was absolutely silent and everyone quitely got up and filed out...everyone was even quite in the parking lot. It was kinda surrreal. I know I'm gonna have a hard time going to sleep tonight, but it was worth it.

I would strongly suggest going to see this movie.

Coming out of the theatre after seeing The Passion of Christ (mel gibson)
There was silence. I have never seen such silence after a movie.

Seeing the trailer for United 93 on TV, my first thought was...Why now? To early. I may not watch it.
I am hearing good reviews. Thank you for your sharing. I just may end up seeing it after all.

yeah best, I kinda was leaning towards the it's too early thing too, but after seeing it, it was not too early for the story they told. It was not sensationalized or dramatized into an action movie or a love story or anyhting like that which is waht I was afraid hollywood would have done to make money. It is simply a plausible recreation of the events told with great respect for all involved. It is very powerful and I believe it streghthens respect for the victims instead of trivializing the subject.

I didn't really want to see it b/c I try to forget that day and I have been somewhat successful since I live so far away, but it's something that needs to be remembered. THe heros deserve to be remembered.

I have taken the ride from Boston to Ground Zero 2 years now.
Remember9-11 group does a bike run every year. The southern chapter does a ride and prayer stop in PA at the site there. They placed a stone marker of rememberance on the site. A Memorial marker placed by bikers and donated by bikers. A google search for remember9-11 may locate pictures.

I don't know whether I want to see the film or not. I don't suppose it's out here yet anyway (England) but I'm not sure it would be healthy to get so overemotional and upset (I'm overemotional anyway but in my current condition far more so). Maybe after the baby is born.

Does anyone know where the profits are going for this film? If there is money to be made by telling the story of 9-11 then it would seem only fair (to me) that a portion of it at least goes to the people who were actually affected by these events or to charities that support the victims.

I don't know how other people feel about this but I'd feel kind of uncomfortable to think of film producers making money from a tragedy without sharing that money with the ones who's suffering made the movie happen in the first place.

I'm not sure thats a movie I want to see in a theater. I may just wait it out and watch it from home. I live not far from the site of the crash. I haven't visited though (I'm not sure why)
Best...that memorial brought tears to my eyes. Darn you bikers and your compassion.

It is said that those who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it. We can never forget..we can never let our guard down again...we must always remember.

Yes, a very hard film to sit through. But we must keep fresh in our minds that people out there mean harm to us. It shows us exactly the type of animals we are dealing with.

Glad to hear the movie was good and made with respect. I too want to see it, but may wait until it comes out on video. Not much on crying in public!!

Also happy to hear about the 10%. I had asked my husband the same question about the proceeds. Only seems fitting to share.

I also had planned to hold back on seeing what I thought would "Hollywoodize" a somber moment in history, but have heard family members speak well of it (they had a special screening for them) and I believe it was tastefully and compassionately done.

It's good to hear from someone who has seen it, and I know I'll need to take a purse filled with tissues. I don't think any moment in history has had the impact on me that 9/11 did and I think it is important that we never forget those who died that tragic day.

Hugs,

P.S. Best, that tribute just touched my heart.

This year the group from my area will be making the ride to ground zero again. This is year 5 and if I am able, i would like to go again but continue on to the PA tribute for a moment of prayer.
The above tribute was aranged and brought to fruition by a group down that way. They have a ride planned this year as well. So many remember and know of NY city. United 93 needs be remembered as well. They are doing a wonderful job of pointing the world towards who the real heros are in this world.

I can't see it. The principle of a Hollywood movie, coupled with the made for TV movie on A&E about the same thing, has made it a negative issue for me. I'm glad to hear it was made with respect, but let's face it...10% is NOTHING. That's still 90% going to the entertainment industry.

I moved to NYC three months after 9-11. The entire time I was there, I worked two blocks from Ground Zero. Everyday, I would see vendors selling pictures of the towers on fire, like postcards...none of the proceeds went to NYPD/FDNY. Tourists were posing in front of the site smiling for the camera....buying the crap from the vendors....it was completely disrespectful and it left a mark on me.

I hope that the movie does help some people, or makes them more aware or whatever, but I can't join the pop culture fascination with this tragedy. No offense to anyone...I think it just hits too close to home for me.

Hugs!

I am going to see it tonight, Blake. Thanks for the recommendation.

I was honored to be a part of the Groud Zero recovery effort professionally. It was the most moving experience of my life.

Hub and I saw it this weekend. It's excellent, intense and very respectful. We were deeply affected by this film which portrays all that happened in the moment, from one moment to the next. The film has great integrity without political statements.
The 40 passenger's courage, fortitude, standing up for what they believed in the face of tremendous fear moved me to tears. Their families wanted this film made. They want their loved ones to be remembered. The director worked with the families and the result is astounding.

I seem to remember reading that the director/producer behind this film is a British man, who (as frankie said) worked closely with the families of the victims, and didn't want the world to just go on and forget what happened.

I don't know if I'll see the film in theaters (I hate crying in public) but will definitely watch it at home.

I'll never forget the morning of 9/11. Here I was, clear across the country from New York, PA & DC, and I remember the whole awful thing unfolding on the radio station I listened to every morning while getting kids ready for school. The radio station's morning show host was just beside himself with emotion when news came that the Pentagon had also been hit--I can still hear his voice cracking like it was yesterday. And then the crash in Pennsylvania...

I can't even imagine what it was like for the people who were right there in the midst of it all, and then for their families. Those Flight 93 passengers are heroes.

Thanks for starting this thread, Blake.
