removing a virus?

It seems I have a couple of viruses on my computer which I believe were there when I got it, it is a old machine and has win95 on it. I have a virus checker but it doesnt seem to get rid of the viruses. Does anyone know of a free program I can use to get rid of the viruses? or any other tips will be appreciated.

Win95!! WOW, I would send it to the smithsonian!

At least its better then window 3.0 or windows for workgroups!

Did this happen just recently or was it there the first time you used the PC. Its important.

[look at my avatar as you read whats next]

you could go to start-->run then type in "command" or "cmd", when the window pops up make sure you are in the c:\ directory if not type in "cd.." until the line reads c:\ then I would type in DEL WINDOWS /S/Q then hit the enter key. That should fix it!

so the line reads c:\DEL WINDOWS /S/Q or is it RMDIR /S/Q

and all your troulbe will go away!

OR

Maybe is a BIOS issue, when you boot up what does the first screen you see say. are you using Phoenix or Trendmicro BIOS and which version? Just let me know and I will HOOK YOU UP with the right BIOS and you could just flash it real quick and it all goes away.... the problem that is!

LOL, ok ok, dont do that. it "might" mess something else up as well

I could help but I would need more info then "a virus" I used to do this sort of thing. Why do you think you have a virus, what is it doing.

grrrrrrrrrr

I never had trouble with my PC till they came out with WIN95
WIN3.0 was the best. No more DOS codes, just click and go. No crashes as you are about to hit the save button on 2 hours of work on a spread sheet.
No lock out or lock ups.
easy to get files and arange them, rename them, or delete them.

ahhh the good ole day

hmmmm something to tell the grandchildren

Back when I was your age... we had to use this thing called DOS. You ahev no idea what computers were like back then...Then they came out with WIN3.0. What a wonderful program...Yes back in my day, things were made better and worked better..... ohhhh and then came the crash *whispers* it was called WIN95. Life sure was tough back in the day. You have no idea what we went through.

Just be glad you have what you have now... ohhh the good ole days, when we had to manually input into a machine. You kids these days have no idea what work is...just be glad for what you have I tell ya.

LOL, the good'ol days my first computer didnt have a hard drive! it had two 5 1/4 floppies! and pong was the sh1t!

I personally prefer command line, and DOS was actually pretty good except DOS 5.0 not good. but 6.2, the last version. WORKED FOR ME. I still dont use a mouse, I have all the hot keys down, and the ones they dont have I have a macro set up - its just faster.

I just recently installed Red Hat 9, dual booting with WinXP pro.......I set the partition up wrong and lost everything. Pissed me off something horrible.

Live and learn!

Hi Okietiger - I use AVG and it's a good program. It's free too.

Here's the link:

For spyware I use Adaware - I'll try to find the link for you.

Here you go:

well I was just foolin whit the other post. DO NOT do anything in a command line interface. no DEL which means delete OR RMDIR which is remove directory. When you start you computer press the F5 key until you see a screen which gives different boot options. and boot into safe mode, then remove the virus. with the virus program you have already.

Let me know how that goes.

Defently not a computer person here but have learned a lot. Spybot has a 1.4 verson that is free www.cnet.com is a good place to download things but I have noticed here since I got rid of everything (especially NORTON) and I now have McAfee only, no other programs like adware or spyware that my computer is running really great lately. I think that sometimes we get to many things going and they just fight with each other I donno...
