| What Are You Listening To?
What's playing on your stereo right now? Did you know elephants can play music? Track 10 is a reading of Deena Metzger's poem, "Mandlovu" which I think is an elephant speaking of how it is to be herself. I think it's applicable to humans also. Mandlovu by Deena Metzger Suddenly, I am of a single mind extended Across an unknown geography, And imprinted, as if by a river, on the moment. A mind held in unison by a large gray tribe Meandering in reverent concert among trees, Feasting on leaves. One great eye reflecting blue From the turn inward Toward the hidden sky that, again, Like an underground stream Continuously nourishes What will appear after the dawn Bleaches away the mystery in which we rock Through the endless green dark. I am drawn forward by the lattice, By a concordance of light and intelligence Constituted from the unceasing and consonant Hum of cows and the inaudible bellow of bulls, A web thrumming and gliding Along the pathways we remember Miles later or ages past. I am, we are, Who can distinguish us? A gathering of souls, hulking and muddied, Large enough — if there is a purpose — To carry the accumulated joy of centuries Walking thus within each other’s Particular knowing and delight. This is our grace: To be a note In the exact chord that animates creation, The dissolve of all the rivers That are both place and moment, An ocean of mind moving Forward and back, Outside of any motion Contained within it. This is particle and wave. How simple! The merest conversation between us Becoming the essential drone Into which we gladly disappear. A common music, a singular heavy tread, Ceaselessly carving a path, For the waters tumbling invisibly Beneath. I have always wanted to be with them, with you, so.

I'm listening to a rather haunting song by Tool that doesn't appear to be available on buymusic.com called Sober, so I'm downloading Bat Country by Avenged Sevenfold instead. Tool - Sober There's a shadow just behind me, shrouding every step I take, making every promise empty, pointing every finger at me. Waiting like a stalking butler who upon the finger rests. Murder now the path called "must we" just before the son has come. Jesus, won't you ******* whistle something but the past and done? Jesus, won't you ******* whistle Something but the past and done? Why can't we not be sober? I just want to start this over. Why can't we drink forever. I just want to start this over. I am just a worthless liar. I am just an imbecile. I will only complicate you. Trust in me and fall as well. I will find a center in you. I will chew it up and leave, I will work to elevate you just enough to bring you down. Mother Mary won't you whisper something but the past and done. Mother Mary won't you whisper something but the past and done. Why can't we not be sober? I just want to start this over. Why can't we sleep forever. I just want to start this over. I am just a worthless liar. I am just an imbecile. I will only complicate you. Trust in me and fall as well. I will find a center in you. I will chew it up and leave, Trust me. Trust me. Trust me. Trust me. Trust Me. Why can't we not be sober? I just want to start this over. Why can't we sleep forever. I just want to start this over. I want what I want. I want what I want. I want what I want. I want what I want. |

| ![]() Damien Rice: O Mixed in with O are a bunch of live bootlegs and covers by other artists of his stuff. It is very chill music, though not exactly the happiest subject matter. -p

Dream Theater - just saw them in concert Monday night! They opened with "The Root of all Evil" (from whence my tag line originates), which is MP's musical adapataion of his experience with Steps 5 and 6. Later in the show, they performed 'The Glass Prison', which tells about Steps 1 and 2 (and is dedicated to Bill W), the followed it immediately with 'This Dying Soul' - Steps 3 and 4. A great night, made even better by the fact that I had only 2 Pepsis - a totally sober concert experience. The kicker of it is - they played a second show last night, and - get this - covered Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" in its entirety! They even brought in a gospel singer to do the "Great Gig in the Sky" solo!!! Fortunately, they're big into the "bootleg" scene (they support and encourage taping), so I'll be able to download a recording of the "Great Gig" online. |

Hey Dan, I'll check out Paco. You'd probably like these guys too. We were leaving a harborside restaurant in Newburyport one evening last fall & they were set up there selling their CDs (I bought two) & jamming away. They had a crowd of people around them - mesmerized. Just an incredible sound & energy. I was like, these guys aren't on tour why??? Thanks FaeryQueen - it's fun, isn't it! I love to hear what others like in music. So this Madeleine Peyroux - what kind of music does she make? Is she a singer, instrumentalist, both? PS - great place to buy books & CDs: www.half.com

Another latin guitar hero of mine. Oscar Lopez. Jammed with him, a long time ago, at a folk festival in Northern Ontario. Very suave fellow. |
