Thank you. You have an ominous look about you. Sorry. I need to talk to someone about my extreme drinking problem. I've been drinking since a young age. Alcohol in my house for many years. I want to join AA and am looking for advice. That's all.

Hi Everyone,
I was able to get use of the computer again. Someone else always wants to use it so I have to share. I want to thank DD, Chy, Splen, Lu, Sher, and Brookie and 3Legacy for welcoming me. This whole idea is scarey and I'm not sure of myself. Your welcome meant everything to me and that's why I came back today because everyone here seems nice and like real people.

My name's Jen. I have a family history of alcoholism and drug abuse. When I was young, my dad used to have me bring him beer when he'd come home from work and I'd open it for him and take the first drink before I'd give it to him. I liked it so much then because we didn't have air-conditioning and it tasted so cold and bubbly. He only drank a few, but later I came to realize he had harder liquor hidden. I have many brothers and sisters who drink and use drugs. None of us are bad people, but I think we have the disease that I've been reading about here.

Then my boyfriend brought alcohol further into my life. He brought Bacardi Rum mostly. He seemed to drink some, but I always drank alot. His family was dysfunctional and I felt like I fit in better if I was drinking too. Noone cared if I drank alot. I started sneaking alcohol in at my job. I got married to my boyfriend and moved away from that town.

The problem is that I'm still drinking heavily, beer and hard liquor and taking over the counter sleeping pills. I haven't gotten into any trouble, but I'm worried that I'm an alcoholic that can't quit.
My question is how do I quit totally when so many people around me are drinking? It's in my face everyday. Thanks for listening to me. I feel better having it out in the open. I think I need help. Well, I have to give my computer so I'll talk to you again soon.

((((ripping))))

The way to quit is just for today. That is probably what most of us here have done. hope it helps you... try some AA meeting most cities have several different meetings go to a couple of different ones and see if you feel comfortable at any of them. You will find lots of people to hang out with amnd you will find out what sober people do for fun!!! And keep posting here we all love hearing from you...

Yep. Just for today. And then, one day at a time.
Alcohol becomes part of a person's life in so many different ways. And although we may feel at times that our circumstances seem to make it harder for us to get sober, the truth is that the only real obstacle to sobriety is that lump of grey matter between our ears.
We, as alcoholics and addicts, are our own worst enemies.
I'm glad that you shared here, and I hope you find it within yourself to seek help, in the form of a recovery program or counseling.
I'd also like to say that heavy drinking and sleeping pills is an accident waiting to happen. Please, please use extreme caution.
Glad you're here.

Thank you Splendra and Dangerous Dan.
I'm in trouble with alcohol.
I'll work on what you say with AA and see if I can make some steps over the next few days.
I'm very doubtful, but I don't have anything to lose by trying.
Thank you for helping me.

(((Jen)))

Why not give it a try? If you don't like living sober, the alcohol will still be there. AA/NA and SR have all helped restore me to sanity. Like Splendra and Dan said, do it one day at a time. That's how we do it. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not promised to us. I'll say a prayer for you.

Sherry
