Hi Im Sharon and Im an alcoholic. I live down here in one of the Southern states better known as Baton Rouge, Louisiana. If you were to travel down this way u will see that this is the home of the LSU Fighting Tigers...The New Oreans Saints....Antibellum Homes, Bayou's, misquitoes.....lol Cajun foods, boiled crawfish....hear Zydeco music... However, when people that have never traveled here often wonder how many Alligators we see each day. Do they travel the roads? Just, did I see an alligator today? lol Hmmmmm.....right...lol We see so many alligators each day that they r too many to count...lol NOT..! lol Alligators live in the swamp...in the bayous along banks.....But...We dont see them...lol Well at least i dont....or havent...lol So if i were to travel to ur state, what might i see if i came there?

You'd see lots of good sobriety!! OK, how about the Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, Lake Powell, Kartchner Caverns, great Mexican food, etc., etc., etc. OMG, I could go on and on and on............... I love living in Arizona, and it's so much better viewed through clean and sober eyes!

Astro...I went to Arizona with my family some 8 yrs ago and vividly remember it ...sober of course.... Beautiful land....however when i went to the Grand Canyon i was experiencing my chemical imbalance... I was so scared on the top of the Canyon that i couldnt really enjoy it.... Today i have my imbalance in tac and would give anything to return and experience one of the lovely Wonders of the World once again. The Painted Dessert was awesome as well..... Thanks for sharing and allowing me to remember some wonderful sober experiences in my lifetime.

With a little over 1 month of sobriety I chaperoned a group of elementary school kids on a trip to the Grand Canyon. Let's just say it's a little stressful when 60 kids run for the edge at once! I'm looking forward to the day when I can hike with my children into the Canyon. I did it twice as a child, the second time I had pints of Jack Daniels in my backpack. My disease was just starting to kick in.

A little less stressful u say...lol oh my Lord....and i just had my 2 and that was enough to give me a heart attack...lol Astro...that is great on ur one month....Everyday sober is a miracle...everyday sober is one more step towards recieving the promises stated to us in the Big Book. Sobriety is my life now...and my soul purpose in life today is to help the next alcoholic achieve sobriety by sharing my own experiences, strengths and hopes with them. If you continue to reach out to another recoverying member then u shouldnt have the need to reach for another drink for as long as u remain willing to go to any lenghts to stay sober. One Day At A Time.

Lotsa gators down here in LA - lower Alabama - as well. Also the most beautiful sugar-white sand beaches I have ever seen from here to the FL panhandle. Pine trees all over the place, and red dirt. A few nice cities (Mobile is my favorite) and lotsa nice people.

Of course New Orleans which is in the process of rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina... The French Quarter , Mardi Gras..... An ABSOLUTELY RECOVERY.... Lots and lots of meeting available to you. Oh and YES....you may see an Alligator....lol

sharon, nice to see you back. My state is not nearly as dramatic as Arizona. You'd see the dunes of the national seashore, rose covered cottages, driveways covered with crushed seashells- then you'd see the "Big Dig" in Boston, one of the country's most costly nightmares. The rolling hills of the western part of the state. It's an interesting state, but a tame one, compared to the wild west; I live in the best of the best part though; beautiful Cape Cod. |

Well on the other side of Louisiana you would see a group of wonderful, hard-working, resilient people - determined to rebuild their world even though most of the time it feels like the world forgot about them. You will see a new Cameron High School Stadium that the football players were able to play their first home game only 2 weeks ago - this being almost 2 yrs after Hurricane Rita. But you can bet that those Cameron Parish families would still offer you some of the best pre-game or post-game food you could ever sample in your life I could introduce you to my co-workers, whose offices in Creole, Hackberry & Cameron and Johnson Bayou have not been able to be rebuilt due to beaurecracy and being overshadowed by Hurricane Katrina. These people are working to rebuild the roads in temp offices & still trying to build a home since they had no home left. But off that subject - Let's focus on recovery - come by on a Mon, Wed, Fri at 6:00 pm or Sat at 12:30 and we'll go to a wonderful New Beginnings Al-Anon meeting. Where you will find a wonderful, recovery family waiting to welcome you & offer you their e, s, & h. If you are looking for an AA meeting, there are several meetings available with open chairs also waiting to offer help to those who are willing to take it. And if you are ever in this area - give us a yell - will be glad to give you a tour of the Creole Nature Trail, Sam Houston-Jones State Park, go to a McNeese Football game, and even treat you to some wonderful home-town or spicy cajun cooking. Ya'll come see us, Rita

Oh Astro, I agree. I love my state. It just looks, instead of a wild place like one of our western states, like it has softly been worn dorn; this hill are so soft; everything is. An Nantucket is lovely. But, I couldn't live there year round for all the tea in china! Too hard to get on and off in the winter!
