Thumbs down mail opened!!!

OK, so, I purchased a book from Amazon. I do so regularly.
I got the book today.

The cardboard it was enveloped in was cut open!
It was stuffed into a postal service bag!
Worse the leather book cover was damaged by the knife that cut open the cardboard! :

It is a Hebrew-English Tanakh. I've wanted one for a long time, but, they're kind of expensive, so, I finally ordered it and got it.
And the cover has been CUT!

(A Tanakh is the combination of the Torah, the Prophets and the Writings. It's an important study book. And it was important to me... )

It's cut only a bit, on the end. But, the leather has been destroyed.
It's integrity has been destroyed.

And I'm PO'd that the post office opened it; cut it; and knowingly just stuffed it into a bag and gave it to me, without a notice or anything!!!! n:
You know, I order books ALOT online from Amazon. I cannot imagine why they had to do this. They could have exrayed the thing, and saw it was just a book -- to them! :nono:

I do not even know how to go about handling this. I'm quite upset. :>(
What do I do?

Shalom!

That stinks, Teach. I would make two complaints. The first should be directed to your local postmaster. And the second complaint should go to Amazon. I don't remember what their return / exchange policy is, but call them to find out. Tell them it was damaged. You should be able to get another one reshipped.

I agree with Midas. Most packages that are mailed are insured for up to $100 (at least they are in Canada), so maybe that would cover it. Worth a try.

Thanks, guys...
I appreciate the tips.
Still cannot figure out why they would have done something so stupid and destructive...
I guess I'll see what Amazon will do.
And voice my complaint to the post office -- whatever good that'll do!

Shalom!

I think this falls under "Damaged In Shipping". The next step is usually a claim with the carrier for the cost to replace the goods. Check with the seller -- they might have an automatic return/exchange program for online orders.

As to why it was sliced open, who knows? Maybe someone thought the title was threatening, or it felt wrong or any number of other reasons. More care should have been taken while "inspecting" it so as not to damage it.

Emimily;
I've had VERY good luck with Amazon. And I've ordered books from there for a very long time, now. I'm surprised that you've had difficulty. My issue is definately with the post office.

Green Tea,
There's no title to the book on the outside cardboard cover it's shipped in. It's jut the standard UPS shipping labels. Nothing to raise a question over. That's what's so aggrivating!
But, damaged in shipping is definately a go!

Thanks, Peter and Annie.
Yea, I guess I'm pissed... As they say, it's better to be pissed off than pissed on.

I'm in the middle of final exams with the kiddies; and final report cards. I really don't need this garbage right now, know what I mean... :sigh:
I'll get it done...sooner or later....

I still have another issue to deal with, too. I'm so glad school is over soon. It's the first time I don't have to work during the summer while at home near the beach. I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and support. :>)

Shalom!
