I always run everything through my sponsor first or at least try to and my sponsor suggested that I wait a year or two before making such a statement with a recovery tattoo he said the main reason is that most of us don't stay clean anyways and that wouldn't be a good message to carry.

Well here I am almost a year clean now and I really haven't even though much about that now. Hum I might wait another year I think

man what a great thread. i have two tats now but i am going to get a recovery tattoo as soon as i build up some money. i want to get an upper sleve on my left arm of a dragon to represent strenth and courage. im so into all of the tattoo shows like miami ink and inked. one day i hope to get a full back piece done. thanks for sharing..jason

Hi Chance - I hear what you are saying - For me it felt like the right time. I got some time up before, then went into re-hab. The tat for me serves as a reminder of my time in re-hab and what I learnt.

PS - I don't listen to my sponsor anyomore - he just busted on speed after 17 years of sobriety from booze - Needless to say, I am looking for a new sponsor

found this on google, i think my tattoo would simply be there to remind me out the pain and suffering i have came through with my drinking and to try my hardedt not to hit that place again....but i am on day 2

I don't have any pictures But I got Two Tattoos
one is in my Right Arm is my Name (Lisa),
writing in Script with my B-day on it
and the second one,is two big wings and a Sword in the middle
with a Little Blood drops going down and three little stars
this is the closest example I could of gotten but is and Idea





is not as close cause mine has two stars one on the
left and one on the right and one on the Bottom
and Blood dripping down but is close and is not on my arm is on my belly

WOW! I have been thinking of getting something on my shoulder....but, I'm scared.

Heavens, Indigo, didn't that hurt? Goodness! I like it a lot, but, did you have to be on any pain meds to do that?

I don't know much about tats, (obviously), I just don't like pain. Maybe I'll work up the courage (sans alcohol), and make it a gift to myself after some really good sobriety goal. Like a year or something.....hopefully I'll make it that far, and further!

For some reason the site won't let me upload the pictures of my tattoo to post here, but I did just get one about 4 days ago. It says in cursive handwriting...

Here's my first ever tattoo. Just got it like 5 hours ago.




It's the 1 day keytag from NA. I got it so that I will always remember that it's a "Just For Today" program. God willing, I will never have to pick up another white keytag. Also, I got it as a gift to myself for celebrating 1 year clean(in August).

Looks better in person, looks a little messed up in the picture. Pic was taken 2 hours after completed.

This is the tattoo I got for my one year celebration. It is an ambigram of Veritas, the latin word for truth with vines to remind me that truth is life.

I've been wanting a tattoo for over 2 years now, well another tattoo. I haven't been able to pick one.... the other day sitting in AA I thought hmmm that's a good idea for a tat... A symbol about my daily struggle and power to stay sober. I'm on day 41 today, haven't picked one but the pot is boiling for sure.
