| Favorite Music....
Hello I'm David and I'm an alcoholic. Speaking of Elvis and the Beatles, I just wanted to start a thread that pertains to what music makes up most of our daily fabric (besides music beds that we hear on TV or the radio). My favorite music that I listen to nowadays is jazz. I love all sorts of jazz. My current faves are Pat Metheny, Nat King Cole, Django Reinhardt, Larry Coryell, Miles Davis and Diana Krall (she's so sexy)! Anyone here have a taste for jazz? Who are your faves? Happy health and life to all of you! David It's raining today!

Hello David, Have you heard Renee Olstead? She sings jazz so good. She is only high school age. If you can get ahold of her CD (Produced by David Foster) I think you might like it

That sort of music doesn't thrill me anymore! Maybe it has something to do with quitting drinking but I guess I like to use my brain when I listen to music. Jazz intrigues me!

fyi, not to sound rude but i do use my brain while i listen to music. lots of the bands that i listen to have really deep, introspective, and poetic lyrics. me and my group of friends can spend hours disecting certain songs. plus, with some of the stuff that's going on in my life right now, it's nice to have an outlet for some of my anger. i do agree with you about some of the jazz stuff though, i grew up listening to my mom sing along with nat king cole all the time, and i have a special place for him in my heart.

I'm not saying you aren't using your brain when you listen to music, I'm saying that when I would listen to such music I would do so either if I was drinking or high. Maybe if I would listen to that sort of music now with a sober ear it would make for good mind stimulation but I've found that a good jazz record keeps my mind active. It's intriguing, somewhat like a good movie. Don't get me wrong and don't take it personally, I just don't get a thrill from rock music as much as I used to. Yet I do still listen to some "non-commercial" bands and I do so because they aren't the bands that sound like everything else you hear on the radio. Frank Zappa, King Crimson, and Kraftwerk come to mind in that sense. I grew up with KISS and The Beatles and I also have a special place in my heart for both bands.

There's a lot of rap I can't stand, but I do like Outkast! In fact, I've turned many friends of mine on to the Love Below-Speakerboxx album. They are two very talented guys! Their latest album, Idlewild, isn't bad either although I could do without the very beginning of the CD! Anyway, if you get a chance, check it out - you might be surprised! I also happen to like Run DMC and De La Soul.

I agree about rap with you all! Now, don't jump all over me, but Eminem is the exception. I don't always like what he says, but the boy can write. P.S. I would never let me kids listen to him though! MNGirl. I saw Dave Brubeck in concert 20 years ago! George Winston. Love him. Had him playing in the delivery room when I had my girls. |

I don't necessarily like Eminem but I'm sure if I were to meet him face to face it would be a whole different story. I'm sure he's a pretty down to earth guy. I happened to hang out with a close cousin of Dr. Dre's quite a while back when I lived in Philly and the guy was, first of all, a dead ringer for his cousin and he was all smiles and a very pleasant person to be around. Then again, maybe his cousin is an absolute opposite, who knows.
