The Rainbow

This is a poem I wrote a few years ago when I had been in recovery about 8 months. It means even more to me tonight, because my son just relapsed and I needed to read it again and again as a reminder to me that even with pain, there is a lot of beauty in this world.

THE RAINBOW

I watched a rainbow forming high above me,
A glorious creation from the sky.
I paused a while to contemplate its splendour
And thanked God that the storm had now passed by.

I picked a rose beside the winding pathway,
Its sweet aroma filled the summer air,
A bud unfolding, soon to burst wide open
Above the prickly thorn, it blossomed there.

The glory of the rainbows and the flowers
Would soon be lost if they were not so rare,
These gifts that follow storms and thorns and heartache
Are given for the healing hearts to share.

Hope you enjoy it and remember to look past the storms and thorns for the beauty.

miracles happen

Hey Ann.
Your poem really touches me; makes me think of my own mother. She is very active in the program and has been so loving to me during my fight with this disease. I can remember so many things I have done which have scared or hurt her, things I can't take back. I have gotten sober, though, after years of killing myself slowly; this is something I know she's been praying for. I think if it can happen for me, it can happen for anybody. I guarantee this'll be in my thoughts for a while! Thanks, U ROCK!!

Your rainbow poem is beautifu. It reminded me of a saying i once read: If you cry because of losing the sun, your tears will not let you see the stars. Thank you for the peaceful thoughts.
