| The Depth of the Devil with in Us, A poem written by me
The Depth of the Devil with in Us This crazy little devil called Addiction Just keeps coming at us with no conviction It pulls us in and takes a hold Like a bad hand of cards we tend to fold As our mind keeps playing these tricks on us Makin us want to try every drug from coke, heroin, to angel dust So that we can get just one more high and we don't ask why Because we think we can take just one more hit So we spark that devilish drug up till it's lit And as we get into the depths of addiction Stumbling down this road called life Becoming so depressed wanting to pick up a sharp knife Slit our wrists till there cut just right Blood drippin down to the floor as we start to feel numb Numb to the core where our mind and body wants that drug more and more and we know now death might be behind the next door But as our body starts to become faint we are thinking death well it will be fast and oh so quaint To take us away from this hellish place Take us away cause we feel our lives are a disgrace A disgrace because of all the drugs we take Cause we have picked them up and made that mistake But for that time being it took away the pain That pain that was deep down in our souls Where we felt we were lost and are thinking process not completely whole Because the drugs stole away our mind body and dignity Where we could not see the light at the end of the tunnel Because we were in so much misery Now this disease follows us around like it's our shadow Where it's like our morals are put in some sort of straddle Pulling our thoughts in all sorts of directions Where we have to choose between right and wrong Where at the end we have to decide if our morals now in sobriety are right and can take us along Take us on this journey of learning who we are The insides and outs where we have to set goals and shoot for the stars Forgive ourselves but never forget The pain we felt and the hurt we caused the people who love us and want to see us strive Strive to become the person they know we are deep inside A Poem written by Elizabeth Mooney |
