Poems about addiction

Here's a couple of poems my friend wrote...he is a recovering addict.

Affliction of my Addiction

the affliction of my addiction has
me wishing i was never born
my life dismayed, utterly wrenched
and totally torn
i struggle against the obvious, yet
unseen forces keep me treading,
dreading the rise of the sun
i became a monster, a dope fiend junkie
a hustlin' fool, school of hard knocks
flunkie
dead i am, pacing amongst the living
observing as real life passes me by
dodging emotions i choose to escape
into my addiction and the affliction
worsens, even more
i pay horrendous dues, never acquiring
recompense, always i lose
slipping further and further down into
the pit my addiction
my affliction runs deeper still

Death Of A Man

a man dies long before he is old and gray
way before he has nothing left to say
death occurs when the spirit to fight is
gone. he stands there wondering what might've
been, thinking "i should've done this.", or
"if they would've just..." no one knows or
seems to understand they've just witnessed
the death of a man.
he's been dying a slow death, one that
diminshes him and all he touches. soon the
light of hope, will to live, and the desire
to love and be loved, lost, in a void where
even he refuses to go. in there lay his
dreams and aspirations. their death has come
more swift than his own, but they
usher in the onslaught to his demise.
despair is king, sorrow his best friend. sad
songs of the blues are his lullabys. he no
longer lives, but struggles to survive

Those are very good and I enjoyed reading them, particularly the second one...

Here is a song I wrote a few years ago about a local girl who, was a year above me in school...

Used to see her around, she was really pretty - the kind of girl you always think is out of your league....

Anyway, she ended up an addict and lost everything and was found dead in a shabby old caravan where she ended up living...

The name in the song is not her real name...

She reads a book by candlelight

The glimmer in her eyes it dies

And now she throws her world away

It was only yesterday

That everything was ok

As moonlight filters through a

Heave curatin by the cabin door

All the world is unaware

There lies Melody Adaire

The Girl with Auburn Hair

CH-

Turn around, she was never over there

Have you seen her hair

Turn around, she is standing over there

The girl with auburn hair
