| Boo, keeping myself up again!
I have tried just about everything for sleep. Ambien, Lunesta, Remeron, Seroquel, Trazadone, Benadryl, Melatonin... probably a few others I forgot! I have either hallucinated on these, felt too groggy in the morning, or it just didn't work. I guess I will just have to deal with occasional insomnia, but it has been 2 nights in a row now, and the night is a hard time for me!

I get what you are going through. I really do. Since I got sober 5 1/2 weeks ago, I continue to have pretty bad insomnia. It got a little better after the first week but I'm usually up till the wee hours of the morning and many times I have watched the sun rise before I finally fall asleep. Not using any medication at all, but I have used Trazadone in the past. It did work, but was all groggy for hours when I woke up. This way I'm just plain tired. I wish I had a solution for both of us, but I don't. I try and just go with it, rather then fight it. Doesn't help much, but does put me in a better frame of mind. Just want you to know that you aren't alone. Still for me, staying sober is a great gift, because I have struggled and relapsed for years now. I'll put up with the lack of sleep because this way I know my life will get better, drinking I was sure close to ending up hospitalized, incarcerated or dead. I was at the end of my rope. Take care mtnmagic |

Totally get what you saying.....night times are very long for those of us that dont sleep. I have never had a good nights sleep. When I was a toddler it got so bad that the doctors used to give mum and dad sleeping tablets for a fortnight at a time! I was quite happy to sing and play all night. As an adult I still dont sleep but at least I dont sing all night! All of the recommendations I have followed like warm bath, milky drink, no caffeine or food after 1900 hrs, make me relaxed but no amount of lotions or potions work to help me sleep, so if you find the answer..... The only advice I can give is to not allow yourself to get angry and frustrated about not sleeping because it just makes it worse. May you sleep tonight

I have been having a lot of using dreams lately, they suck. My dreams are usually so strange and out there, but these are so realistic and have a logical flow of events.

Have you tried Yoga before going to bed. Asanas can relieve stressed muscles and increase blood flow to areas that may provide you relaxation and allow you to fall asleep a little better. It's worth a try and has the benefits of costing you nothing and is medication-free. Sometimes even a 10 to 20 minute walk with conscious deep breathing will do wonders. I would encourage you look into this. I have had shoulder issues in the past, which kept me awake at night. After just a few days of Yoga exercises, I achieved amazing results and helped me regain movement in my shoulder again. The key point is, as always, make sure you start slow and basic. Simple shoulder shrugs, as an example, can help relieve tension in your neck, thus giving you relaxation. My best to you. Padraic
