Recurring Nightmares

I just gotta wonder why this happens? How can you have the same nightmare over and over again and each night it seems worse than the last... Do they ever just finally fade away? Or do they stick around till they're finally resolved through talking and all that..? I just keep getting the same one and it's driving me crazy because it won't go away.

Hmm i guess its the kinda thing thats different for different people to get over.
I had one for years, not every night but often.
It was my mum chasing me with a knife trying to stab me in the eye, or run me over with a steam roller. when she would catch me i'd wake up.

It just stopped one day.
Hope yours stop soon!

Recurring nightmares are sometimes evidence of an unresolved trauma or negative experience that happened earlier in life.

Some websites offer info on interpreting dreams and the themes they carry, but if you want a professional, find a licensed psychoanalyst and they will help guide you through the process.

Yeah, that sounds about right...
I'll have to look up some stuff on interpreting dreams. Should be interesting.

I read somewhere that it helps if you visualize a happy ending to your nightmare right before you go to sleep. Just insert a happy outcome into the same nightmare when you're thinking before you fall asleep. I read that it helps resolve it. I haven't had the same nightmare so I've never tried it.

Nightmares are common in people who are in early recovery. They do tend to go away. They did for me. But after I relapsed they came back. Horrible, Horrific nightmares that I would not want to repeat to anyone.
