Worst night of my life!

I am weening myself from drinking.
I have been drinking steadily since August of 2005
I used to drink a pint of rum after work which accelerated to a fifth after I lost my girl of 6 years. I now drink a fifth of rum on average a day.
I recently started to have a drink in the morning and/or afternoon as well as from 6p to 8p when I would pass out.
In the past 3 or 4 months I started to feel weird at the end of the work day.
It soon dawned on me that i was feeling withdrawal symptoms within 6 to 8 hours of my last drink. Dizziness and trembling.
Since 8/15/08 I have moved back to one pint a day. I paced out my pint on Sunday from 12noon to 10pm and tried to go to sleep.
Right before I went to bed I came down with a massive migraine and became very agitated.
AFter going to sleep for the first time out of 5 last night, I had the most horrific experiences. My dreams started off as terrible nightmares. Then it seemed like someone was taking over my dreams with random thoughts and songs going through my head.
When I woke I was hearing noises that would make me feel like a lighting bolt passed through my body.
After that my dreams were so vivid that I was waking up in my dreams thinking I was actually awake. Strangely realistic dreams of all the stressful stuff I have going on.
I am thinking of taking Tylenol PM tonight, but to be honest I am terrified of going through what I went through last night.
Any suggestions PLEASE...

Sorry I missed this on monday!

Your drinking is very similar to mine. And yes...I was shaking and sick within a few hours of going to work from withdrawl even though I drank a third of a fifth before work.

I would suggest you see a dr. right away. They can help get you through the detox phase, and through the adjustments your body may make in the coming months.

I had lots of nightmares but they have faded for the most part.

Oh...I didn't see this thread before and wish I had. I had a very similar experience to yours. It was terrifying. I hope you are alright. I knew I was in the final stage of my drinking when it happened (for me). It's withdrawl and it can get pretty hairy for some of us. I hope you will post again with an update.

I have this exact same problem... I am a moderate drinker during the week, but drink more heavily on the weekends, "partying" which often turns very negative and many consequences for me... I have nightmares and insomnia (except when I am drinking and pass out) almost every night. I take a prescription medication and it sometimes helps, but I cannot take natural herbal remedies, like melatonin as they make my dreams vividly real, exhausting and sometimes horrifying. Definitely see your doctor- sleep aids help!
ps. I am now sober 3 days and plan to continue through my weekend!!
