Its 1:30am on this side of the world. Woke from a sound sleep. Just like that. Decided to get up, read and post. Wonder who else is up at this hour? Moments like these, like to turn on talk radio and listen till I fall back asleep. What a bummer. I feel like the only one in the world up this early. Seriously, I know im not the only one. Anybody else out there?

3:30am. Roaming the house in the dark.....Family sleeping. I should be too. Looking out the window. Dark, quiet, still. As usual, I'll go to the office extremely early this morn. Lock the door, lights out, reading and posting until the workday begins. Mid morning comes, i'll get really sleepy. Oh, great. Where was this at 1am this morn. What a way to be, huh?

Hi Introvrtd1 You are living my life. I am up all hours of the night and then i have to get uo for real at 6am to go to work for 9 hours and solve other people's problems...try to anyway.3 days straight I did not close my eyes. i had to take off work. I really thought that i was on the brink of a meltdown. All of this stems from my son overdosing last May and also being addicted to benzos for a few years. I came off of the benzos and 8-10 hours of sleep to nothing. It sre has been rough. What do you attribute your insomnia to?

Just got in....sittin here at the office. Reading and posting. Its very early. Nobody here yet. Still dark out. This is crazy. Being the only one in the building this early. In the dark. At my computer. Ha, the only good thing is when I arrived being the only car in the lot. For now. Having any spot I want is fun. Arriving when everybody else does is a drag. The fight for spots begins. Bosses dont worry about spots. Theirs are reserved near the building. For everyone else, the race is on. Parking is not all that big a deal. Its just a matter of how far u walk. The furthest spot is maybe a one minute walk. Soon as the day begins, I'll get sleepy. Go figure, I been up since 1am.

Whenever this happens, my panic/anxiety kicks in. Im finally calming down. Earlier, I couldnt sit still for five min. Now, able to read and post with focus and concentration. Bad thing is, tonites sleep is gonna suck (i hope not anyway). Right now, feel like I cannot stay awake. When its time for bed though, very little will happen. Sleep may elude me.

Great. I've had meetings, site visits, lots of emailing, other busy stuff all day, while fighting to stay awake. I finally get home, eat a little meal and plop down on the couch. Normally I would be fast alseep. Wouldn't ya know, the sleepies were all gone. Closed my eyes, but felt just like I did at 1am this morning. NOthing. sigh...........I hate this.

Had a fairly decent nap when I got home from work. At first, a struggle, because I felt very tired, but wanted to sleep. Finally blacked out for about 2 hours. Man, that really charged my battery. At what cost? I went to bed at 11pm after reading and posting. Didnt actually fall asleep until around 1am, but slept thru the nite. Only about four hours sleep, but tonite should be better.

hey into How goes it right now? I hope that the nap really helped. There are times when i would give almost anything for 2 straight hours of sleep. I haven't had that in so lonf. I would safely say that I haven't slept 2 straight hours in 4-5 months. i am getting about 2-3 hours of sleep at night. It comes in 10-30- minute intervals. i hate that too. I;ll doze off and have weird dream and wake up. I'll look at the clock and to will only have been like 6 minutes. It is driving me bananas. I am addicted to benzos. I slept like a baby then. Now i don't sleep very much at all. I work 8-10 hours a day and i have 3 teenage daughters. My plate isfull. I was thinking about trying to bet hypnotized to see if that helps. i am also entering the idea of meditatiom. Any views on these ideas?...............Viki

Thanks Viki, Since being off benzos, I think the body creates quite a tolerance/dependence. Of course ur sleeping well on benzos, coming off is the hard part. I dont know about the hypno stuff. I was too afraid to try it. Im a control freak, and someone else in control, particularly of my mind is a scary thought. 8-10 hrs work, three daughters,......oh, the drama u must see. The cause of my insomnia was drinking. When I stop, I sleep like a log after a few days of turbulent sleep patterns. Exercise is tough to fit into a busy schedule, but boy does it really help. Nothing fancy, just 30min, 3X a week walking, biking, yoga, or any vigorous activity. I really believe you will detox, and start to sleep better. Hope this is helpful. Good luck, Intro

Insomnia can be a vicious cycle, and reading the earlier posts bring me back to those days... Some tricks that worked for me in the past... 1) Whenever I couldn't sleep, I would leave the bed. The 'bed' was only for sleep, and I didn't want to associate insomnia w/laying in bed. 2) Sticking to a sleep schedule. At first this is easier said then done, but if you can manage a period of repetition, your body will become accustomed to it. 3) Exercise. I usually wore myself out by swimming, and swimming, and swimming. Your alert mind cannot resist the body's tiredness. 4) Healthy diet. Old cliche, but you are what you eat. Certain foods will wreak havoc to your blood sugar and consequently make you tired at inopportune times. Resist the mid-day nap. I would also try the 101 remedies out there, though none of them worked for me. Such as warm milk, hot bath, boring book (kinda worked actually), clearing mind, counting and visualizing numbers in order, etc. Bryant Gumbel once said sleep was overrated. He routinely sleeps 4 hours a day. He is weird, in my expert opinion. best, Dave

I often wake up at 2/3am wide awake. Cant get to sleep until |
