Kylah... Oh, hon, we lost our precious Christy on April 3, 1989 to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. I went to a parent grief-support group for nearly a year - it was one of the most helpful things I did. I learned so much that made me feel better. Did you know that SIDS babies cannot be revived? Even in the hospital on monitors, they cannot be revived. The death is from a shutdown in the brain of our babies, not just the breathing stopping. Did you know they are always asleep when it happens? That even babies sleeping in the front packs next to their mommies hearts will drift off... without moms ever even noticing. There is nothing you could do to change what happened ... nor could I change what happened to our baby. Our Christy died at day care. One minute, she was fussing for a bottle and the provider heated it up in the microwave.... she came back and Christy had died. She started CPR immediately, and was relieved by a fireman who happened to be there to pick up his kids - yet Christy died anyway. SIDS is unpredictable, unpreventable and unforgettable.... http://www.co.arapahoe.co.us/Departments/CO/Sids.asp I urge you to contact the SIDS Foundation in your area for information on grief counseling for parents - the one I went to was free, but I cannot tell you how helpful it was. We even had moms who showed up twenty and thirty YEARS after their babies died because they carried some sort of guilt with them for that long. I am also sending you a PM about this - please contact me if you want, I really do care.
