I have always found that a great quote can make my day. With that in mind...I was thinking about what an entire thread of them will do. I'm not sure if there is a thread like this in another part of the board....but I thought this might be a good place to start it. If we can get enough submissions, I might try and organize the quotes into sub-catagories and make a FAQ-like list for those looking for a specific type of quote. I would like to start this with something I read in a post over in the PTSD section. (From Indigo's Thread: (indigo's healing thread of hope) ) I ended up searching around to find the author (Veronica Shoffstall). The version I found was slightly different, but you'll get the idea. ![]() After Awhile (Sometimes referred to as "Comes the Dawn") After a while, you learn the subtle difference Between holding a hand and chaining a soul, And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning And company doesn't mean security. And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts And presents aren't promises. And you begin to accept your defeats With your head up and your eyes open With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child. And you learn to build all your roads On today, because tomorrow's ground Is too uncertain for plans, and futures have A way of falling down in mid-flight. After a while you learn that even sunshine Burns if you get too much. So you plant your own garden and decorate Your own soul instead of waiting For someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure... That you really are strong And you really do have worth. And you learn and learn... With every goodbye you learn. -Veronica Shoffstall -pedagogue

I don't know if this qualifies for this thread, but here goes: Radiate Joy When Loving becomes a habit, we naturally radiate joy. Is there anything more appealing than someone who takes delight in life? Don't fake joy if you're not feeling it, but don't withhold exuberance either. We owe it to the world to let our goodwill spill over. Even simple appreciation can be a healing balm. As the Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us: "Happiness is available; please help yourself." |

Sure that qualifies! Here is one of my all time favorites. Many times I've gone back and read it to remind myself about inner strength. What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us. --Ralph Waldo Emerson -pedagogue

Hope this qualifies. My nephew was just killed. Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance. When you are down to nthing, God is up to something.

Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow is only a vision. But today well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Sanskrit proverb

I´m so sorry for you nephew, Yooman. I just lost my nephew as well. My thoughts and prayers are with you, as with all of you here. Here are some quotes I like: "Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow them." Louisa M. Alcott. "When you´re going through hell, keep going." Winston Churchill. "Even if happiness forgets you a little bit, never completely forget about it." Jacques Prévert. "If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream." Martin Luther King. Love and light,

"And a woman spoke, saying, Tell us of Pain. And he said: Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding. Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that it's heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain. And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy; And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields. And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief. Much of your pain is self-chosen. It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self. Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility. For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen, And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears." K. Gibran 'The Prophet'
