Uni Pal at rest

I went to the funeral of a University friend yesterday. He was only thirty (9 years younger than me) but still a good pal. He was first diagnosed with cancer at the age of 19 - so for 11 years he put a good fight against his disease. But the week before last he developed pnemonia and died.

I went to University later in life than most (age 29) and this guy was one of the crowd that were so pivotal in changing my life around at that time. As I'm alcoholic, I've been desperately trying not to turn all this around and focus on ME - but I do feel like some of those precious memories of that time have been plucked away. Is this usual.??

I didn't go to the wake, there were a lot of old buddies there, already making plans for drinking (eg leaving cars, arranging rides and taxis) which is fine, but not for me, as I felt that all that grief and booze would put me in a difficult - but not impossible - situation.

much love
JC

Oh my Friend
I hurt when you are hurting....
So sorry to hear about your friend...
And yes it is normal to feel "those precious memories of that time have been plucked away."
When my mum and step-dad were killed, they were in between ranches so life as I knew it was suddenly gone, poof up in smoke... sometimes even now, almost 17 yrs later, I feel such a loss that such a big part of my life simply rode off in to the sunset...

I am so sorry for your loss...

I, too lost a good friend several years ago...I find myself thinking of him and then realize he is no longer with me in this life. It is such a loss, I want to talk to him again.

Peace and prayers to you,
Wolfstarr
