Today I'm thankful for ...
- my children
- the patience with and acceptance of my children that I've been able to access in sobriety, not every time (I'm not perfect), just more than in the past
- setting the alarm 10 minutes early to start my day with this gratitude list
- finding the inner fortitude to ignore the part of me that wanted to lay back down after the alarm clicked on
- my coworker who offered to bring in Starbucks, both because I like the coffee and because I appreciate the thoughtful gesture a lot. Thoughtful gestures mean a lot to me.

I started this list because I tend to get caught up in what's missing. Finding gratitude, observing what is well, is so important. So is practicing acceptance, making realistic expectations, and doing the next right thing.
Tonight someone said that when an issue keeps rubbing against them, they take a fourth step. Taking action, doing, is where I fall short of joyous, happy and free.
The universe works in mysterious ways sometimes. Sometimes it even gives you signs. Boy do I wish magic happened just because my intentions are good, but it doesn't. The good life takes risk, action, and effort. It takes vulnerability and mistakes.
This is still my gratitude diary but I hope it can evolve from a series of observations to a call to action.
I am thankful for friends who show me they care about me and tell me I'm special.
*i will do something thoughtful
I am thankful for my children
*we will spend 15 mins together uninterrupted.
