It made me sad to read that California upheld Prop 8 yesterday, I can't understand why people continue to live their lives as they please (straight) and we get homophobia from so many of these so called 'upright citizens'

I think its more a case of "uptight" rather than "upright".... citizens!!!! I love the quote you have at the bottom of your posts.... Fear is a very big thing to people and very irrational at times.... unfortunately this is one of them times.... It's so sad.... be well louis |

For them, it's all about control and comfort. Besides, they just don't care. Or think. Or have a conscience. The more I learn about people, the less I like them.

The courts upheld prop 8 because it legitimately passed, whether we like the law or not. I'm not too worried though because as we know other states have recently legalized gay marriage. Eventually, it will happen. Once people get accustomed to seeing gay married couples and realize the world isn't falling apart then they'll be more ok with it. The Right might get desperate and try to pass marriage bills but I seriously doubt they'll make it out of the democrat controlled congress.

can get furious and all that but I see things are changing and this will change too. They'll throw it back to the people to vote on down the road and I'm going to place $$ that it will pass the net time 'round. |

Doesn't matter. The amendment/revision is unconstitutional. The decision is based upon a technicality. I admit that the opponents should have gone for the unconstitutional angle (that was their mistake), but the fact remains that the amendment/revision is still glaringly, blatantly, unmistakably unconstitutional. This decision is decidedly dangerous. A majority of people can collaborate to force a vote to take away minority rights. I wonder what the next proposition will be? Scary.

Yea I guess it would be scary. Unless the proposition is something I believe in. lol And we can get away with wording it deceptively too. I agree with u that it violates equal protection rights, if thats what you meant. But how the system is structured the judges made the decision what they thought was right, I don't think it was necessarily about bigotry with them specifically. I mean, they thought it was it constitutional.. Whats constitional to begin with is determined by them. We can say they're biased but the Right says the same thing when we get our way. Its awfully confusing.. because you can amend the california constitution without actually revising it, even if you do revise it. I guess its kinda flimsy if all it takes to revise the constitution is a new proposition. And its sad that it came down to words, when its so blatantly discrimination.

I was sad to to see that this was defeated. Even now when people I grew up with are getting married in my home state of Iowa. I mean freakin midwest Iowa and California can't even figure out what they want to do. My friends in LA are going to protests the next few days, I would like to be there just to be a part of it. Things will change with time I'm sure.

Here are some things each of us can do to help: Take Action: I DO support the freedom to marry Courage Campaign | 1 Million for Marriage Equality: Watch "Fidelity" and sign the pledge (the video of the ad they are going to air in California is great)
